I've been getting closer and closer to succeeding at WILD with each of my past 5 attempts. I feel a bit stuck right now though. I manage to stay really calm through twitches, jolts, and itching, etc. If I ignore it, it goes away.

Last night, I felt this very strong pulsating sensation in my head. Like as if blood pressure was suddenly building up in my head. I could hear my pulse very very loudly. And then it subsided. And I was just lying in my bed with my eyes closed again.

I get the occasional sensation of floating, sometimes, sinking. I start to lose perception of a solid surface supporting me from underneath, but that lasts only for a few seconds.

Im not sure what to do from here. I feel like I must do something to instigate the onset of a dream, but I dont know what.

I just wanted to hear your take on this.

Haha I was expecting a reply by now ! But sure! I can wait ! :P

I just got up from a 2 hour nap (if you can call it that) where I tried to WILD again. Failed.

It was interesting though. I was pretty much awake the whole time, but was laying still in my bed. No jolts this time. There was some itching, but nothing too annoying. Had to swallow 5 times.

I tried a different method that I read on the DVF last night. I just imagined as vividly as possible myself getting off my bed and going through my normal morning routine on my way to university. If everything worked fine, I should have automatically transitioned into a dream by the time I reached my last subway station (this is about 20 minutes into my morning routine). But it didn't work.

I think this was firstly because I couldnt imagine it very vividly.
Secondly, I could only imagine very few sounds. So I was pretty much imagining my whole routine in mute... which is interesting 'cuz this was the first time that I went to bed with ear plugs on. I have no idea if the earplugs could have affected anything.

Just thought I'd share...

Thanks rogue,

I have no problem having lucid dreams when I WBTB and fall asleep after an hour... which is great, but Im just thinking of trying WILD as oppose to just DILD. Does WILD work best when you WBTB too ? I was under the impression that WILD should work at any time of the day.

But I think you may be right about pushing myself too hard when Im trying to WILD.... is there a way of calming yourself down before or during pre-sleep ? Also, when Im trying to WILD, and it isn
t working, how would I know when to let go of my attempt and just try to fall asleep the regular way?

It'll probably be easier for you if you do it after around 5 hours sleep, when your body is tired enough to quickly fall back to sleep again :)

My only WILD was too scary for me to attempt again any time soon, But i hear that if you set your alarm for about two hours earlier than you are used to getting up, It will leave you tired enough to enter a WILD much easier.

Ehh ... my insomnia is really messing me up and dream techniques just seem to be making it worse. So Im going to take a break from WILD and WBTB for a while.

Thanks for the help guys.

Altasi: your first WILD is always scary! But if you do another, and another, it getts less and less so until finally when, like me, you've tried way too many times, it becomes a smooth transition betweeen WILD and dreaming. Keep going!
