This is a simple poll with a simple question.
First and foremost, I provide with with an auditory aid.

Such obviously philosophical dialogue seems to have gotten me to noticing every time someone says "h-what" instead of "what". It gnaws at the very foundations of typical pronounciation but pops up in all sorts of different places and from different people! (Not that it's a bad thing!)

So now, my question to you is...how do you pronounce "what" and "whip"? :dancingcow:

Cool-Whip ofcourse.

I actually heard some guy in some other TV show say gwhip, without trying to be funny. How did this vocabulary tumor of sounds develop?

occasionally if I'm confused I have also been known to say "whaaa..?" but still without the "h"

I couldn't listen to your audio aid but I'm assuming it's a Family Guy reference?

Aye but it's that part of that episode, which I saw once (not a fan) that got me noticing every time I heard someone pronounce "what" differently like that.

And, once again, not to say it's anything bad at all. In fact, it seems we don't have anyone around that has a unique pronounciation of the words...

We are all mindless members of a monotonous society! The end is near!

Yes let's create a new accent.

I didn`t listen to the clip yet (can`t here), but I think that "h-what?" is just a confused mix of "heh" and "what".

Heh, I know what you mean and a smirk followed by "what" results in a "h-what" of sorts but it's not the same. There's actual regular pronunciation that some people have resulting in a clear "h-what" like in the clip. And yet we have none such, it seems. :(

I prefer the sound h-what coupled with an english accent as it sounds so delightfully upper-class gentry, h-what h-what.

But, no, unfortunately I don't speak like that.

Hehe...Family guy is one hell of a show...I say it as it as spelled of course...nothing strange. Though "Scrubs" has now overtaken "Family Guy" as my favorite show.
