I feel that pain... You have no idea how much I miss the good old days of EQ.

I've started up NWN again and I'm actually having fun with it. I went through some tavern and into this area called "The Gauntlet" (there's a sign just as you enter that says: Golden Rule of the Gauntlet: Do not shoot the food. :rolllaugh:). The Gauntlet is an arena sort of thing, and I had skipped it the first time I played the game because I was doing the whole Lawful Good crap and my character then probably wouldn't fight in an arena. My character is more Neutral Good this time around, so I went into the arena, mostly just for giggles, and beat the crap out of everyone they sent after me. With the bossman defeated, I got the key to the tavern! I now own a tavern and they give me all their profits! LOL!

It's fun and all, but I still wouldn't mind an online game of some sort. Or maybe not... EQ used to be awesome. And then, suddenly, it wasn't anymore. Damn... that's like four years of my life I'll never get back.

At least a few good things came out of it. :)

Used to play a lot of arcade stuff like Galaga. I even owned an Atari 5200 in my younger days.

Now, I don't have the time or eye-hand coordination to play.
About the only game I play now is Yu-Gi-Oh (the card game) with my son.

You know what's funny about this poll? The fact that I can own Serinanth at just about all those genres (except sports, but who cares because sports suck).

What shard did you play on in UO? What was the name of your character(s)? I was Lady Lyn of Yew (gm archer/gm mage thank you! :D ) on the Atlantic shard, which was the ghetto of all the shards, sadly. :( I was also Andromeda on Catskills, but for some reason I couldn't keep a connection for more than two seconds... imagine that... I almost miss that message.

Connection Lost...

Most of my MMORPG time was clocked in EQ... but that's a LONG story that I'll eventually finish writing someday. I dabbled in AC, but I hated it (no elves, dammit! :-P ) and I meandered around DAoC for a little while. I played a really cool werewolf/catgirl thing. It was fun and all, but I got lonely. During the hours that I played, no one spoke English. Played RO (Ragnarok Online) back in Beta, and that ROCKED except for the fact that, again, very few people spoke English so it was hard to meet people and team up to go whack monsters around. Played E&B (Earth & Beyond) for a short stint, too. Again, it got lonely. Not to mention, there was barely anything to do. Visually, though, the game was stunning. I'm in NWN now, playing a single player game. I've recently gotten a little too ambitious for my britches because I've warmed up the ol' Toolset and started rebuilding my world. Not sure why I'm doing this yet... no one is going to see it but me! *sigh* I'm weird.

What did you think of AO? I've heard opinions going both ways and I was curious what yours was.

I seem to remember taking out a certain invisible your_mother in Unreal tourney...

She had a skin but it didnt show up for me and she was invisible, I was still able to hold my own against this invisible foe... the funniest instance was when she stood right in front of me when I shot off a redeemer round...

BLOOOOM WTF why the hell did it splode...
She must have laughed for a good 20 minuts.

Ok so you got me in halo... a measly 2 kills on one game, on a level I hate.

Why do you hate Hang Em High? I LOVE that map. Especially with nothing but rocket launchers and eight other people to splode. Man... I miss Halo nights with my friends. They don't do that anymore. :(

*sigh* I need my foot to heal quicker than this. I'm getting so tired of NWN, but there's nothing else to play. I think I've played all my other games to death and frankly, single-player games start to suck ass after awhile. OH! But Dave might pick me up on Thursday or Friday so we can hang and play games. It will be so nice to see living, breathing people other than my fam and the zombies I work with.

Blu, right now I'm in NWN, blasting through Shadows of Undrentide. After that, I begin my search for a persistant world. There are a few out there, you just have to look. I'm also building my own world, though I'm not sure it will ever really go anywhere. I have to re-teach myself how to script, which is proving to be quite the task. *sigh* I can't even seem to get a simple OnActivateItem script to work.

Anyway, I have RPG maker 2k, but it's in Japanese because the ex and I had it imported before it went stateside. He couldn't wait a few months for it to be translated. Anyway, I played around with that for a bit, but at the moment it's in his possession and he's not about to give it up so I don't have a lot of building experience with that program.

It's unhealthy how much I miss my EQ days. I mean back in the day when EQ was new and people actually roleplayed. It really was quite the experience, and its early years were an excellent substitute for pen and paper D&D. I've often wondered of late if I'll ever find anything quite like it again...?

Seri, you have no idea how awesome your offer is. I'm still a little leery about getting into the online thing again though. I get a little too attached to my characters if you know what I mean. It's a mental thing... comes with the whole being crazy territory, I guess. Either way, I will definately give it a serious look-into.

Also: I hear (via the guys at MacHall--Ian plays a chick :D ) that there is a problem in FF involving pants? Apparently if you're female, the biggest quest you face involves finding the ever elusive pair of pants. If they exist. Not that I should care much about pants, I suppose... I mean, hell, I draw Ellifayne in various stages of naked more often than anything. But wait, if I'm a white mage, does that mean I have to wear that extremely modest get-up that they do in all the other FF games?

Serinanth
11-24-2003, 08:34 PM
no no.. Ian has no idea.... at least he plays a chick... I will add all the female models in the game are... uhh ok well they are hot =)
and it matters little if they have pants hehe

As for the guys....

I purchased my first armour upgrade the other day and found out that well... I NEEDED PANTS!!!

It looked like a bronze diaper! I was like what the hell!!

I walked around town emoting

*Serinanth needs pants BADLY!*

I actually went back to my old pants! couldent take the breeze!
I lost 2 armour points but I look stylish now as you can see from the screen shots =) in the What a night thread.
Ian did find pants though hehe and you would probably choose a white mage rather than a warrior or red... but I duno. or theif hehe but anyways, the more magical types wear normal looking clothing =) the detail is amazing too!

Oh and get this the time matters!! Shops have store hours! they close at night! And the phases of the moon and the TIDE have serious effects on my fishing!... among many other things they effect...

Its very immersive and the whole interface is very much like a final fantasy game, you even have a limit break =) The Play onlinve viewer that square came up with is cool too, mail chat news all kinds of cool stuff even has a file manager you can mess with your screen shots and send greeting cards and goofy stuff attach them to mail its immersive... hehe

Though the world is somewhat small... well actually I have only seen like 5 of the hundred zones or so... and it is kinda big.. I guess I will see hehe. OMG watching the airships dock is so cool

You see it come in from the distance and the drawbrige that spanns the harbor lifts up and the airship lands in the water and coasts in to the docks as the drawbridge goes back down and the ships are huge!

crap.. I wana go home and play... damned werk....

Heh. Crackhead. :)

And yeah right... can you see me as a thief? In fact, have you ever known me as anything other than a cleric? Ok... So I started as a rogue, didn't I? I hated it though, so that doesn't count. Oh yeah, and I was a shadow knight on occasion, when you let me run around in your pants for awhile. Err... shoes. Yeah... I meant to say shoes... Anyway, I'm actually doing pretty well in NWN. I've taken on some serious druid levels and now I'm like Snow-freakin'-White with all these goddamn deer following me. I can pretty much charm any animal in the forest, I can hold my own in a fight, heal as well as a cleric (I can res too), and cast some mighty nice spells. Ooh, check this out, too: I don't know if you remember this or not, but in my story/novel thing, Elli's foster parents cast this nasty ass Gust of Wind spell... well, I can do that in NWN now. There's nothing like coming across a mad group of gnolls and knocking them all on their asses with one spell. Bwahaha! Oh, wait... I'm, like, Neutral Good or something. I can't laugh maniacally. I think I'm going to start an evil guy and just kill everyone.

What's a good site to learn more about FFO? I'm going to check the Vaults first and see what they have to say about it.

I'm so fucking bored. My foot really needs to heal now.

Serinanth
11-24-2003, 10:37 PM
That thing aint fixed yet? yeesh... you need to work on your wolvie healing powers.

Hmm Square's site is good, the vaults are ok, too, download the benchmark from squares site and see how your computer rates. It said mine was average, but it runs the game at ful res and stuff smoothly
it will give you a peek at what the game looks like and dont worry its not nearly as choppy as te benchmark, they really put your puter to the test with a butt ton of sprites

... Maybe it's because I haven't had my meds yet today, but I have this pessimistic sort of feeling that it'll say, in a very Strongbad-esque voice, "Hello, stupid, and welcome to your crappy computer."

Remember back in the very early days of EQ when you guys would always have to wait, like, ten minutes for me to zone? I'm thinking this might be the same. Blue elf needs RAM badly. I'll check it out though, just in case my computer decides he wants to have a good day.

Penny arcade prettu much summed it up hehehe Actually scot started his character first so I kept recreating my character untill I got the right server, I have the Gil now to buy a worldpass which gives you a code I would then give it to you and when you create your character ou put it in and you start on my server we are on quetzlcotyl or however its spelled.

Ok, just watched the benchmark thingie. It wasn't the least bit choppy. Can I fall out of my chair in surprise now? Cute little people too, except that one of them was headless... that was a little disconcerting, but I'm going to assume for now that the polygons clipped one another. Goodness knows I've had to deal with that problem enough building my NWN world. Is that what the game looks like, by the way? If so, it's very nicely textured.

Ok. Looks good so far. I'm considering it. I have a few questions for you now. Is the subscription really $12.95 a month? Does it hurt much or do they lube up first? Also, what's with the "World Pass" thing? Can't I just keep recreating a character until I hit the right server (that is so retarded by the way)? And why the fuck do they charge you extra for additional characters? Aren't you alloted so many character slots like every other ORPG? Those silly Japanese. What is the interface like and is it customizable? Also: how's the roleplaying? If there is any at all, that is...?

Last question: are there a bazillion elf guys running around that look exactly like you or was I just not seeing the other characters? If every race looks exactly alike, that will suck. I have no sense of direction as it is and I don't need to get lost in a sea of Serinanths.

Hmm... on second thought, that wouldn\'t be a bad thing.

The avatar creation is kinda limited...there are like 7 or 8 faces and 2 hair colors well this is for the elvaan males you can also choose a small med or large character. The other races look very different the size differences are kinda comical in some senses the tiny little guys in the benchmark are a player race.

I havent seen many me's running around the armour variation helps this the variations are HUGE dependant on class etc...

Ok so only having one character... yeah its dumb... you can buy another one for an extra buck a month, however... You can change you class whenever you want in the game, you will keep all you stuff. You go to your Mog house... yes there are mogs... and they do go KUPO (isfunny) well in this house you can do all kindsa things, like put in furniture arange it grow plants... which has its benifits as you can get special items from them, and you can change your Job/class so right now I am a lvl 9 red mage, if I go to my mog house I can change my job to a warrior or a thief, I will start at level 1 for that class though, then there is the option once you reach a certain level, either 10 or 20 where you can take on a secondary job, so in essense multi task, there are many hidden jobs out there too along with skills.

As for buttering up the 12.95... well installing the game is a pain in the ass, it takes forever on the first update, probably around an hour and a half or so of downloading and installing, and there are more registration codes than god i think like 3 but the Play online interface, which is going to be the base of operations for a bunch of games I am assuming, once they come out with them, curently it has Tetramaster... that card came you could play in FFX i think and FFXI I havent played tetramaster yet. I tell you though, once the viewer starts up you get a warm and tingly feeling, its very inviting. The interface for FFXI is good too, it takes a little getting used to, but it works well very minimal if you want it to be so. As for the music I dont know if its nobuo uematsu.... It could be... its good, I like it =)

Cocobos are fast.... I nearly got run over by a group riding some the other day I started yelling at them heheh

Roleplaying, yes, I have already met a few, people seem very nice and appreciative when you help them out

Oh hehe there is no twinking either... Armour and items have a level associated with them.. if you arent that level.. sorry cant use it. hehe so thats good =)

The world pass is something I would Buy in game from a shop and then that gives me a code which I give to you it costs like 1000 gill which isint too bad I just made that the other day, or yeah you can do what I did find the avatar looks you like and class and keep deleteing and re making the char untill you end up on quetzylcotyl it will ask you to continue click yess but when it asks to start playing click no, then go to delete character and it will tell you what world your on, if its the wrong one DELETED!!! *like strongbad* if its right, back out of that scree and off ya go and I can hook you up with some stuff being I still have the 1000 gill

It would be nice if they could separate my city and our neighboring city so that we're on our own nodes. Unfortunately, phone service in this part of the county sucks!
Would you believe that a large percentage of the population was still using party lines here 10 years ago?

I am twice as far out as a DSL line can run. There is no cable that I could get a cable modem with.

I use Direct-TV, but they want a fortune for an average internet connection.

That is why most of my posts occur between 7-4 on weekdays. It takes a loooonng tim to refresh at home!
