CannabisCulture is probably the most reliable source for unbiased information on cannabis on the Internets.

Interesting, I did not think to look into this yet.

However, Mythbusters did a funny episode over which makes you a worse driver; drinking or talking on the cell phone. Apparently it is the cell phone, by a significant difference.

Anyone else see that..?

Also, if you take sources of this seriously, then you you should also take a look at the Ali G show. :P

That was a funny read:

A comprehensive 1992 NHTSA study (http://www.drugsense.org/tfy/nhtsa1.htm) revealed that pot is rarely involved in driving accidents, except when combined with alcohol. The study concluded that "the THC-only drivers had an [accident] responsibility rate below that of the drug free drivers." This study was buried for six years and not released until 1998.But what was the sample size? Are they saying that of all the accident x% were drug free, x% on pot and x% alcohol?

A 1993 NHTSA study (http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_myth_notes.shtml#note81) dosed Dutch drivers with THC and tested them on real Dutch roads. It concluded that THC caused no impairment except for a slight deficiency in the driver's ability to "maintain a steady lateral position on the road." This means that the THC-dosed drivers had a little trouble staying smack in the center of their lanes, but showed no other problems. The study noted that the effects of even high doses of THC were far less than that of alcohol or many prescription drugs. The study concluded that "THC's adverse effects on driving performance appear relatively small."Tested on real Dutch roads, wow thats a responsible study

A massive 1998 study (http://www.ukcia.org/research/driving4.html) by the University of Adelaide and Transport South Australia examined blood samples from drivers involved in 2,500 accidents. It found that drivers with only cannabis in their systems were slightly less likely to cause accidents than those without. Drivers with both marijuana and alcohol did have a high accident responsibility rate. The report concluded, "there was no indication that marijuana by itself was a cause of fatal accidents."Maybe because less canabis smokers drive when high? This is stupid, the ratio of drivers normal/high/drunk is not going to be an even 33.33333% split is it, so you are not getting an accurate sample here...

Got bored with the rest of it..

Are we talking about the same episode? Where he came with Victoria? (Then again he probably goes to all places with her.) I felt like he didn't have any witty comebacks to anything and was basically just sitting there, uncomfortable. He didn't even say anything intelligible. Ali G walked all over him!

I had nothing but respect for that, it was all for children in need, so for him to go on there and get publically humiliated, as most people do on there, I thought he and Victoria were really good sports for doing it.

Although you are right, he didn't say anything back, and seemed a little shy, or that he was happy to be in Victoria's shadow, as he let her answer all the questions.

Did make me laugh when AliG was asking David if he could bone his missus

Yeah, they failed in both cases, but like they said at the end of the episode, you can also put the phone down. Remember, the mythbusters were still under the limit, the people that get into accidents didn't have just one drink.

Its some huge charity thing we do over here once a year I think, or might be every other year, it was all for charity, so save like kids and stuff. So was more a charity thing rather than a publicity stunt.

Admitidly if it was a publicity stunt it would have been seen in a different light, but as it was all for fun, take nothing away from the guy.

Although I have seen other shows and interviews with Becks and he is pretty much the same then as well, so you are right what you are saying :P

The point is that being on the phone is still bad. We can't measure how often people put down phones.

Also, driving while having sex is terribly bad, but that does not take away from the fact that driving while on the phone is also significantly distracting. My point here is that arguing that "alcohol is worse than cell phones" does not disprove the fact that cell phones is still very distracting.

Wasn't this about pot :??

I've driven stoned and I've been in cars where friends have driven stoned... really, it's no different than if they were sober. From my experience they don't take as many risks, if any at all, as drunken drivers. When I drove high I wasn't really ruthless or aggressive, I was pretty much the same sober driver I normally am. I was also driving standard.

Drunken driving is way different, and much worse.

The problem is more about perception and reaction time than aggressive driving.

Yeah, that's the word I missed, perception. Perception wasn't affected as much as it was during a drunken spin (don't do it), not to the point where it was dangerous.

But could you respond to a sudden event as fast as when sober, a child crossing the street out of nowhere for instance?

Yeah, but it is also inclined to the influence of drugs and addictions over driving.
