Here's a one-question IQ Test to help you decide how you should
spend the rest of your day......

There is a mute who wants to buy a toothbrush.

By imitating the action of brushing one's teeth, he successfully expresses himself to the shopkeeper and the purchase is done.

Now, if there is a blind man who wishes to buy a pair of sunglasses,
how should he express himself?

He opens his mouth and says. 'I would like to buy a pair of Sunglasses.' If you got this wrong, please turn off your computer and call it a day.

But he's blind, why would he want sunglasses? That's the answer I thought of. Blind people wear them though or atleast blacked out glasses.

Yeah. I figured it was unnecessary to state the answer, because it was so obvious. I still had to say that I loved that second sentence, though. :chuckle:

That was my answer. I thought he wouldn't need sunglasses since he's blind...just like you wouldn't see a man without legs shopping for shoes :P

I fail.

I was sitting there acting like I had a cane and putting my hands on my eyes and pointing to them. :embarrassed:

Gah but they do wear sunglasses. It's to hide their eyes and not confuse other people, I guess.

Blind people are rarely totally blind, the sunglasses are usually because they're photosensitive.

Make the shopkeeper deaf next time, deafness and blindness don't mix :P.

That nearly worked for a second. However, I just asked myself what is my basic assumption? which was that both where linked. However, then the anwser became obvious. Blind does not mean mute.

Does this make me a genius?

Nice trick question.

Haven't you seen the movie see no evil, hear no evil.

Anyway the blind person could still just act it out. Also, deaf does not equal mute.

.

But then their not blind?

But then their not blind?

I guess people wrongly assume that "blind" means that people see nothing but blackness. You can see somewhat okay but be considered "legally blind," for example.

However if there is a blind man who wishes to buy a Playboy (http://www.themorningnews.org/archives/galleries/hidden_and_unfamiliar/07hau.php)
How should he express himself?:?

Same way I guess.

Yeah, blindness means that you have a visual acuity of less than 20/200.

real IQ test answer to above:
I'm guessing that the rapid double-squeeze on the shopkeeper (hopefully female) while saying "Honk, Honk!" isn't a bad answer, though?

But he's blind, why would he want sunglasses?

Largely to help prevent cataracts, if they don't already have them. Blind people are prone to developing nasty looking cloudy cataracts with overexposure to sunlight, especially those with glaucoma where the circulation/blood pressure is abnormal to the eye. It's also a bit of a handy sign to other people, saying, "Hey, watch out, I can't see."

My (blind) dad refuses to wear sunglasses after my sister ran him into the bicycle rack at Wal-Mart and smashed his last pair. He did say he'd wear an eye patch over his left eye, though. It's developed a bad cloudy cataract. So now I gotta find him the coolest looking eye patch I can round up. I told him I'm going to get him a tricorn hat and a wooden shoe to go with it. :chuckle:

Plus blind eyes often look "gross" to sighted people. So sunglasses are also for appearance.
