Alrighty...so I know I'm not alone here when I say that I'm fed up with our awful laggy flash chat. We all know that IRC is a million times better. So we're resurrecting the DV IRC Chat.
To connect to Dream Views IRC Chat you need to download something like mIRC: http://www.mirc.com or Colloquy for Mac users: http://colloquy.info
The server is irc.darkmyst.org
Type #dreamviews to join the chat.
It's simple! =)
If you have any questions, ask!

For those of you who don't know what IRC is... basically it's like flashchat but much, much faster.

It's still there and it still works. Why not? People who can't access IRC can still use it, so it serves a purpose.

Is this the same chat that Kaniaz had set up? Cuz after launching Ircle (for Mac) I clicked on the shortcut that I had saved way back then and it took me to irc.darkmyst.org too.
However, I got a "Connection refused" - :(

I think its a bad idea to ressurect this as it is quite annoying to set up.
I think what we need is something that is a bit more integrated in the forum, i have been looking around for ages but found nothing promising, i will continue looking.
I don't know how many will agree but something simple is generally more attractive.

There's nothing simpler than IRC. There are more problems with the glitches, features and lag the Flash Chat produces than there is with simply downloading a single application and running it. Just because it's something new to someone, doesn't mean it's complicated.
But perhaps there's a vBulletin IRC module/hack of some sort?
I looked around briefly and found some mentions of such. Though I imagine the DV forum's vB lisence holder will have better luck searching the official vBulletin forum where all the hacks are posted/discussed.

I hate the Flash Chat, but i think that if we want the IRC chat to be more easily accessed we should try and have it integrated into the forum rather than users downloading and installing a file.
IRC is better, but the method in which doing it is not the best, integration would be better. I have spoken about it before but it got nowhere and nobody really supported it.
I'll ask asher about it at some point.

Lucid Seeker...this is a temporary solution to the flash chat problem. It would be nice to have IRC integrated into the forum, but as of right now, we make do with what we have. So viva la IRC!

I'm going to try my best to find an integrated solution for now. I don't go on chat that much anyway so i doubt it will effect me. But integrated IRC will probably help.
I'll do some more researching tonight. Good idea though, it will do for now as a temp. But i'll try my best to get something sorted with integration and i'll message an admin about it.

Since we can't see if members are in IRC or not, and no one wants to set up permanent residence in there...for now I would suggest that users who want to chat and would like others to join them in IRC, make a post to bump this thread. Maybe someone will see it and come join you. =)
Thoughts? Better solutions?

Question - why do I randomly get "Unknown error" when trying to connect?
I try for a bit with no luck, then a little while later, it connects fine. :P
Right now my Mirc is being stupid and having 'unknown errors" again. :roll:

Which Program are you downloading? if you went to the mirc website, you shouldn't have any issues with a virus or anything.

I did go to mirc, clicked the download thingy, then it goes to some other window for Cnet, then I clicked download and 1/3 of the way through, it says it was unable to do something and it mentioned a virus.

Hmm... well, I got mine a really long time ago when they hosted the stuff on their own site, and I just downloaded from a mirror, but as far as I know, CNet is a safe site.

hmm... I could try to download it, then send it to you over MSN if you want. Otherwise, get a program such as Trillian or something of that sort, and just install the IRC Plugin, and use that.
Well I cannot get on IRC so have fun without me :(

suttsman, just Google the Chatzilla plugin for Firefox, if you don't already have it. I can't remember if it's standard in Firefox or not. Anyways, install that in Firefox, open it via the Tools menu, and in the input line type: /server irc.darkmyst.org Then after that type: /join #DreamViews That should set you right up.
I had a dream about this last night, and Nina integrated it into the site - looks like it was no precognition... lol.

Okay, downloaded Chatzilla, but sadly, when my old computer died, it took my Netscape/Firefox browser with it. Is there either a version for Internet Explorer or do I have to download Firefox?
Edit: Nevermind, the Installer for Netscape Navigator is still here! Once again, I have cheated Death! :D
But still, my Nav is slow as hell, so if there's a version for my quicker IE, that'd be great.

Actually I think that also deserves a touché.
(That one's different because it changes the hard -ch sound into a soft -sh sound, unlike -chay which remains hard. The fact remains that par-tay is acceptable.)

I think the trick is to beep some people by typing in their name. It should flash the screen at them. There's normally some good chattin going on.
