TOTAL lunar eclipse, I might add.

And at an hour that isn't going to be uncomfortable to view it!

Too bad it's going to be like ten below here tonight. Heh.

This is perfect. There's clear skies in Wisconsin, and there's few lights around here. I'll try to get a pic of it at 9:00 to 10:00 pm here. :D

Oh well, can't wait until tonight!

It's crystal clear at my house right now. And the moon is really full and large, though low in the sky. I'm hoping to get some good shots with my camera, though I have trouble getting good moon shots normally. I'll post any good ones, if I get any. :)

Only 2 hours left... come on...

And btw the next full eclipse here will be sometime in 2010. Camera don't fail me now!

Damnit, it's cloudy here too. There's an eery reddish glow in the northern sky, though. Maybe I can get some pics in the later stages.

My camera sucks. So hard. You want proof? Here's proof! (http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/2989/mvc044slx6.jpg) I won't get a picture at all when it's full. T_____T

It's only a few degrees outside. That means my telescope would fog up if I brought it out there, right?

ninja9578
02-20-2008, 08:01 PM
Yeah, but it will defog after the lens gets cold.

Well... uh... :P .. here's at least some proof that I saw it and attempted to take a pic of it.

Funny, but I guess my camera's zoom isn't good enough to span thousands and thousands of miles. Also, as you can see, there are a total of three moons above Wisconsin.

Ooh, nice photos.
Mine didn't turn out so well.

Just wondering if you know that that bright 'star' down to the right of the moon is Saturn. It's quite lovely through a telescope.

Mes Tarrant
02-20-2008, 08:45 PM
Yep, that's Saturn alright... As I was looking at the moon, I was imagining how wonderful it'd be if we had a ring around our planet like Saturn does. I'd probably spend half my life staring at it. :content:

I went outside with my little tripod and took like 15 pictures with 8-15 second exposures. This is the best I got, cropped a bit (my camera only has a 4x optical zoom)
http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v192/171/113/1085700272/n1085700272_30166196_3762.jpg

The reddish color you see is the light of all of the sunrises and sunsets on earth right then, shining back at us. Were you on the moon, you would see a thin ring of brilliant sunset/rise-colored light around the earth - that's all of the sun's light which is still reaching the moon. :)

Mes Tarrant
02-20-2008, 08:54 PM

Burns, that shot at 9:41 is awesome. Here are the few of mine that I feel were good enough to post, and a couple goofy long exposure shots taken without a tripod. I went and set up my tripod in front of my brother's house in the driveway; it's the only place with enough of a clearing to get a good shot. These were all in the vicinity of 10:30-11:00 PM EST, just with slightly different exposures for some.

I cant believe I missed this :( I have a 300mm zoom lens for my Canon and invested in a tripod, would have been perfect to test this out on :(

Oh well maybe in another 2 years...

I managed to see it starting from about half covered going towards full eclipse. Took some pics, but they came out silly as I didn't use a tripod. Took about 40mins of video, though. I'll post some shots from it once I import it into the computer (I used Hi8  ).

It was way too overcast to see much of anything here so during the breaks in the clouds I tried to get a good shot, this is the best one I was able to get. After I took this photo the entire sky was overcast so I just went back in the house. :P
