I see beauty in things most people find ugly. to me, pretty is just about anything in life that is clear and vivid. I think it's partly because I'm goth, but mostly becuase I'm a lucid dreamer and so I appreciate things being clear. thoughts?

I find beauty in simple things..I greatly respect nature..the planet, for instance a simple leaf..a small river flowing..the wind blowing..or just a bird passing by..I think people have forgotten how special this planet actually is,and that it is a miracle we actually walk here,we take thing way to for granted..thats my opinion..respect gaia

The only thing I have found to be ugly, for the most part its not true, but when it is... that is what ugly truly means.

I think I know what you mean... Like when something is completely stripped of any mask or deception, it is still beautiful even if people label it as ugly -because it is true! I love that concept. Though some things, even if they are "clear and vivid" are just plain ugly... especially if they have to do with sickness, pain, or suffering. Are you talking specifically about images or physical deformations, or...?

in winter..dead trees, gardens..
dirty old roads and parking lots..
grey skies...
rotting things...
old houses falling apart...

True beauty is anything that is just what it is.
Be it:
A beautiful woman
An oak tree
A small rock
A piece of road kill
Ugliness is anything that is attempting to be something it is not:
Be it:
A Victoria's secrets model
A fine new automobile
A flashy new set of clothes
I see much beauty in all of nature with the exception of most of mankind!

I love winter, it gives the trees a new voice when the wind breaths over them.

I'm with ya there, paperdoll. Maybe it's because I don't always think in terms of beauty, I just recognize everything just for existing and being different. Or maybe it's because I'm really cheesy about thinking everything being beautiful in its own way. Some things are more personally appealing (beautiful) to me, and to everyone, but everything is beautiful to me because I love to just observe things...the way they're made, the way they move, what affects them, how they're affected, how I feel when I look at it, how I think I would feel if I were it, I try to think about as many different things as I can for each and everything I experience. I consider myself blessed to have seen everything I see, no matter what it is.
I guess in the end, I just think emotion is beautiful...and everything strikes some emotion in me...

hehe my friends make fun of me, say im the guy from american beauty that recorded the plastic bag in the wind, when That spoof came out it made it even worse hehe I dont mind though, I think thats what is its azwe, we just see things for what they are, no two things are alike ever, and that makes it an incredible thing, you will never observe that thing ever agin in that state evironment, etc and it makes it special.

Yeh... These things do have a great appeal to me too :) . Spring is my favorite, I think winter and fall are also beautiful... But I think I just love the change, and the contrast. I really really miss living in an area where the climate has more noticeable seasons. Still, I think it's important to know that many things are UGly. cancer AIDS, war, greed... I say this not to dampen anyone's spirits or to try and be smart -just t o note that these things make us appreciate true beauty all the more :!: (... contrasts)

Yeah...that's it: temporaryism. Everything exists in only one way, for one moment.
I just got \"that feeling\" earlier today at lunch when I saw some old man visiting our school sit down at an empty table to tie his shoe. He got up and I just sat there thinking, That'll never happen again, that's all a chair is for--sitting in, and now the chair is all alone... It's amazing how much we, as humans, can take in from experience. Imagine all the knowledge people collectively have...it's infinite...

No, we're feeling EXACTLY what you're feeling.
You know what? Sometimes I often fantasize that part of what the astral plane is, is that it's a place where everything always exists, in every way it ever has. And if you go here you can see EVERYTHING. Like a place where everthing can meet again... or perhaps for the first time

i think one of the most beautiful things is looking apon a dead tree, whose dead, leafless limbs are stretching up to, perhaps, recieve lost sunlight, with green vines[and thorns] that climb up and surround the tree
another thing that i feel is beautiful is when the wind is so stong it almost knocks you over, and is not too cold or too warm, but just right, and when this happens, to stand in a field and let it cascade you with its beauty...
thats just me though...

Many things that aren't "beautiful" according to some majority standard or mass media's portrayal are still beautiful in and of themselves...
like an older man's hand
crumpled by years
wrinkled and dried
loose skin-wrapped bones...
Oh, and "neutrality" is boring...

Hmmm... Bone Art!
I wrote a story (for a small newspaper) about a couple of local guys who happened to be bone artists and oseophiles (obsessed with all things bone...) Weird dudes, but they were both outrageous comedians and pretty pleasant to talk to. Don't know if I'd call it "beautiful" -just something creepy (and perhaps disrespectful) about the thought of handling someone's bones.

Interesting that the pic would be considered disrespectful - it's from a Christian ossuary (and there's a lot more where that came from). I'm not exactly sure what the attitude of the people who created it was, but I take it no disrespect was intended.

That's out there.
How many have been down in the Catacombes in Paris? You talk about bones!
Some of them arranged artistically.
I was expecting to see a few bones, but nothing like I saw. Tens of thousands!
As soon as I get a place I can upload pictures, I will upload a few of them!
