View Full Version : Television or the Internet?

Friends, I sit here PISSED because my satellite receiver went out and therefore I have NO picture and all my recorded programs have been erased. :?
I will essentially be without my 52 inch tv for anywhere from 3 to 5 days while they ship me a new receiver.
I am reduced to a black and white 5 inch TV which only gets the basic 9 channels (and those come in with static).
All this leads me to a question.. which would you rather do without for a WEEK.. the television or the internet.
I have to admit, even if I'm not watching the TV, it's on from the time I get home til I go to bed. I think I'm just used to having the background noise.
So as MUCH as I love DVs.. my addiction to television has been with me too long and I'd have to say I'd give up the internet for a week.
What about you?

Definitely the TV.
I rarely even watch TV anyways since theres nothing good ever on except for the occasional program.
I could easily survive without it :D (I hope).

TV.
No wait, I've been living without TV for nearly 10 years now.
I guess I don't really qualify to answer this. I do have a TV set in my house, it's just not hooked up too any channels.
But I have to say, when I go to a friends house and see what's on TV, I have to ask them to turn it off. I almost literally feel my IQ dropping. I have to say, I'm glad my parents cut off the cable now. I'm beginning to think I should shut off the radio too because that's beginning to really piss me off these days.

Seeing as how I have a crappy computer, I'd rather go a week without internet.
After all, I was pals with the TV before I met Internet. :D

TV
I can watch anything on TV on my computer; cable tv has become obsolete.
Definitely TV. I don't remember the last time I turned on my TV. :P

Yeah the beauty of this is that the internet can also serve as your TV, many cases even in a legal way.

Exactly. The majority of the stations I watch have advertisements for being able to watch their shows online. I watched the entire second season of Heroes on the official site. =)

I watched the entire second season not on the official site. Why? Cause their are selfish and won't allow people from my country to watch it. Okay, but don't complain about it when I watch it illegally ;)
Definitely would give up TV.. I don't even watch it anyway. The Internet is much more interactive, provides you with more information and more drama.
Let's all abolish TVs :D

Television. Especially this time of year, when very little worth watching is on. I rarely watch TV these days, typically only on Thursday nights for Smallville, or if the computer screen is making my eyes tired and I just don't feel like doing anything intelligent. Then I usually wind up watching Futurama or Family Guy, or some movie on AMC or something, as it is invariably late.
I need to read more, though.

Internet. No way I'm missing the playoffs on my widescreen HDTV surround sound system...
Television. Forever. I hate commercials. I hate reality shows. I hate the news. I hate many sitcoms.
Television is only good for videogames and rented movies.

Both are reliable sources of current news, and porn.
So it matters not.

I've been away from television so long already that I can't fathom how I ever used to tolerate commercials, or the programs I used to watch, for that matter. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Television for sure.
Here in Australia there is almost nothing on. ever. Its all reality shit and crime shows. I'm not a fan of crime dramas, and reality shows are so mind numbingly... bad that I can't think of a better word to describe them.
Only the occasional decent show makes it here, and then they're often canceled or bumped back to a ridiculous time slot in a matter of weeks. There are a few exceptions, like Lost. But even that's been pushed back an hour this year.
So as it is, I don't watch much actual TV. I do watch a lot of TV content, but I have to resort to the Internet. Luckily I got myself broadband, a nice 1080p capable 24" monitor and a 5.1 surround system, so I don't need traditional TV anymore. Take that you stupid Aussie TV networks!

Too regulated for my taste, and one Mcdonalds add would cause me to smash the thing.

Well being the smart person i am i voted THEN Read the question. so i voted wrong. I couldn't go week with out the internet... but actually! see litterly all my friends live out of town and are long distance to even call. So the only form of contact I have with them is the internet. I am really not big on tv. I watch half an hour a week and if i miss it i can get the epsoide online the next day. With out the internet I would have nothing more to do but sit around and twiddle my thumbs! It's sad really!

Since I don't normally watch regular TV. I pretty much only watch DVD's.
And since I use this forum to record my dreams. I would easily give up the TV first.:)

Definitely the television. I watch it occasionally, but I could go a month without it if need be.

Here in America, you are free. Free to defile yourself in front of a soft-porn HBO program, or the good ol porntube.com
Its the American way.
