It's time to cast in your votes again!!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v675/DjTenacity/MarioRock.gif

Credit for this week's challenge goes to Tornado Joe, since it was his idea:

Someone supply a drum track, participants write a guitar part for it. The upside: everyone is constrained within the same tempo and rhythm structure. The downside: it would require participants to be able to layer tracks.

I supplied the drum track, which I made with Fruity Loops. Here it is, in its entirety.
http://media.putfile.com/Sample-Drum-Track-2-for-GW-Week-7

We had some really creative submissions this week, so here they are! Don't just listen! Support your fellow DV members and VOTE!!!!!
(Remember: As always, all contestants must vote for themselves, so as not to offset voting!!)

=============================================

Oneiro's entry:
Okay.. I've come to the point where I feel I can't do much more with this, without stripping it right out and redoing the drum track, and rearranging the verse, chorus and middle eight.. in fact, redoing it from scratch.

It's very much a work in progress, and I resisted the impulse to do any soloing.

The bass sounds horrible because it is a six-string with the pitch altered.

Guitar is an Indie FDL Special > GK 250ML > PC. Mike is an EV N/D767a.

So.. FWIW, here it is:

Tornado Joe's entry:
Alright, here's my entry for this challenge - I call it "Sidewalk Shuffle" (http://www.boomp3.com/m/c49f89f5dcc8/dv-guitar-wars-drum-challenge) (didn't know what to call it, but I picture someone shuffling down a street or something when I listen to it). I didn't get as much time as had originally hoped, I had an afterwork event I forgot about so I just decided to use the drum track I had already downloaded. For this piece I literally sat down, played the beat, and took whatever first riff came out naturally. As you can tell it was pretty simple, so I just used other parts to add some interest.

I chose to add one other personal challenge since I was short on time; to do each part in one take, whatever happens, happens. While I'm not that enthusiastic of the piece itself, I am happy with what I did under those limitations. There was a lead part I wanted to put in, but I had a long day and it's time for BED!!

Oneironaut's entry:
This (http://media.putfile.com/GW-Week-7---Practice-Run) is basically what I'm working with, right now. It's a practice run, because the lead guitar part is just improv, one take. The final product will be pretty much the same, except the lead guitar will be just a little different, because I don't have any really set pattern down. I just have to adjust some volume levels and whatnot, and try to make as few mistakes as I can, on my next run.

[Edit: Originally, I had planned on taking another crack at improving through it, but it turned out I really liked the arrangement, and I didn't have too much time to pick and choose which parts I wanted to try to duplicate, by playing over. I really only missed two notes (I think), and they weren't really all that bad, so I decided to keep this one as my final run.

Hope ya like it!]

Oneironaut gets my vote.

Damn, just looked at this. It would have been good to get involved with this. The shame of it all is that i have sufficient time today to do it.

Could you take in a late entry? If its too much hassle, let me know and i'll give it a miss.

Oh, and Oneironaut gets my ote for originallity. Oneironaut achieved something with a few parts that sounded very good, and the use of layering was good also.

Oneiro was going to be my first choice, but when i compared it to Oneironauts, i just saw that he had the advantage in terms of more interweaving parts. And i wanted to base it on orginallity and O pulled it off with such few parts. Yours was excellent Oneiro, don't get me wrong. Oh, and i like your singing voice, very nice indeed.

TJ, i liked your piece, but the only thing that i didn't like was the use of effect on your guitar, i would have liked to hear something more trebly and with more clarity, apart from that it was great.

Thanks, guys!

Damn, if I'd have known you would have been able to jump in, I would have held off, before starting the thread. :? I don't really know how well a late entry would go over, as it would have to be re-polled and everything. :(

No worries, i'll do one, upload it anyways. Forget the voting, i'm in for the ride, not the voting at the end.

Should have something done soon.

Is there a limit on how many tracks we can have? I just have quite a fe interweaving guitar parts you see.

Its mainly a guitar track since i don't have a bass and i'm not adding vocals :embarrassed:

Oneironaut

Nah, there's no limit. :)

Coolio, one last question, can we produce this as much as we want? I got a ton of feedback thats unfortunately in the recording and i could probably get rid of it with a bit of noisegate. Things like that, is it acceptable?

Oneironaut

Yup. As far as I'm concerned, you can altering it however you want, as long as you're still using the original drum track.

Right, though late and i won't be able to get votes on it. Here is my submission. let me know what you think of it. Its the first thing i have actually completed in terms of a project :D

Its a mixed bag of a piece and there are a load of timing issues as well as some background noise i don't have the time to get rid of.

Here it is - http://media.putfile.com/DV-Guitar-War

Its not the best, its pretty bad in fact. If i'd have spent a week on this i may have been able to get some better and cleaner sounds as well as getting rid of the mistakes. But this was a few hours work, so its no surprise that its a bit crap. I feel like i had some ok sections going but i then ruined it with the metal sort of bit. Hmm, thinking about it now, i'm not too keen on it myself.

I like it. :cooler:
The beginning could use just a little more something, but I definitely like the second half, with the other layers really start coming in!

O got my vote for the contest, but to be completely and totally honest, Lucid Seeker's was my favorite. Loved what you did with it, man.

Oneiro, TJ, good stuff too, as usual.

Oneironaut, you already knew you had my vote before this thread even opened... even the offnotes make this song work great.

"Dunno where I'm going with this, clenched fists,
Hit shit, miss shit, I've went and pissed it,
You aren't a witness, don't expect me to fix this,
Twist it, I'll end it with a blissful hash hit,
Calm my nerves down with narcotics,
Or else I be tearin' both my eyes out the sockets,
You see, this crack blows up like rockets,
It does all my talkin', spendin' cash out my pockets.
I won't knock it, I'll just strap it,
So you can laugh about it when ya see the belt fit,
Making it as tight as required for the crystal ship,
Let it hit...
Penetration designation in my veins I'm insane
Rising up to destination it ain't a game, but a name
Infestation. Infestated now I'm wasted,
elated in the street comatose, I fainted,
People passing by like I was never created.
Am I hated?
Now please help me to my feet,
Tell me my disease,
Obviously you can't foresee what's happening to me
I think I'm sick doc, but I'm too high to plead my plea
I can't breathe without the coke and can't walk without the speed
I can't think without the acid and can't feel without the E,
I cry night and day, always thinking about the weed,
My addiction feeds...

My one and only friend makes my soul bleed. Take heed,
Don't know when you'll hear from me
I gotta find the money to escape reality, actually
Factually there's nothing holding me to livin' til next week
Let us seek, the answers to the problems before my next peak
So weak, snort a dozen rails then watch me tweak, plant the seed
young meat, live the streets, left for defeat ya beat,
be my treat, crazy how deception can be so sweet.
Fantastically sarcastic, wrap me up in plastic, wax it, packed it,
Flattery is shit, over-dramatic drastic, it's anti-climatic
And here we sit, spiralling faster into this inevitable pit.
Life's a bitch."

I had more but I really should start doing my homework. You should send me the .mp3, I'd really like to record these lyrics (they work really well the way I say 'em). Not for your use - unless you want them - I'd just like to hear how it sounds.

Fucking awesome job.

These are nice. Good job guys :)

I'm interested, but i don't know if i'd be able to go through with it. I'm always freaking busy :-\

Plus my Gibby's at my friend's house right now...which is probably a horrible idea.
