For the past few weeks ive been increasingly having dreams featuring trains and train stations. Sometimes the trains are modern, 1 was futuristic and sometimes theyre steam trains. In my dreams im either on the train or waiting for a train. Any ideas what this means? Im always alone, yet there are other people around who i dont know.

I tend to have several dreams of trains as well.

I believe their meaning within dreams to be similar to the symbolism of cars - the feeling of travelling through life, although, one would have some other empathetic relation to trains in order to dream of them. I, for example, have a father who collects trains and builds train models. So, when I myself have dreams that contain trains, it typically means that I am feeling as though my life is influenced from my father and that I have taken after him, listened to his advice on a matter, etc. Most likely. Of course, the situation varies depending on the context of the dream.

What kind of interaction do you usually take with the trains?
How do you feel about them?
Do you have any sentimental attachment to trains?
What do you usually think of when trains are mentioned? (Besides what they are - your personal memories)

Hope to hear more from you.

I have dreams about trains every once in awhile also. I usually associate the word train with the phrase "train of thoughts", so in turn, for me trains represent a "trains of thought".
This dream may be reflecting your biological conscious. Basically trains may represent be a chain of thoughts or ideas which you think about often or that are dominate in your mind.
Train cars follow one track, often the same pathway (brain). In contrast, automobiles are random. They are free to follow their own random path. Basically I think your dreams are showing you that you are forming more coherent (consistent) thoughts and/or thought patterns.
The dream may also be showing that you have focus and direction in life. This direction is allowing you to go beyond the limits of your mind, expanding to new regions of your psyche or perhaps back to old ones.
Somehow you are motivated to follow a specific track in life, but that path may not be a path that your friends and family and other people in your life follow. This is why they are absent. Friends and family, or the lack there of, represent relationships that you have in and with your mind. Friends and family represent relationships that you are familiar with. The strangers that are with you in the cars may be showing you that you are growing beyond traditional relationships and associations in your mind. These strangers on the train are showing you that you are entering into a larger part of your conscious with new ideas that you are not 'familiar'. This may represent be an opportunity to form new relationships with your psyche and expand your intelligence.

Trains in my dreams always appear, when changes in my life come along - wanted or not. I am also always alone in a crowd. The inside of the train often does not conform to what the outside of the train looks like. There are sometimes roomy restaurants in it, where I sit at a table and seem to expect someone or there is a telephone booth in front of which I must wait my turn to make a call. Such things are usually overtures to coming developments. Once I got into a train and looked for a certain table - found it and sat down with two strangers, who seemed to be physicians, stethoscopes and all - they seemed to have been waiting for me for a while and had already ordered a glass of wine for me. They were very polite and told me, I had to be at the pond at six o'clock and not to worry everything would be alright. A few weeks later I was diagnosed with a problem for which I had to have an operation, the hospital was at a pond and the procedure started at six. The train seems to be a symbol of life for me. When things are going wrong or I am doing something wrong - I get dreams, that have me travel in the wrong direction or a signal malfunctions and puts the train on the wrong track. I do pay close attention to my train dreams - because there is always an isight to be had.
