Hello. I take galantamine and choline every four days to get lucid dreams with satisfactory results. In addition I take several nootropics daily. Among them I take 2,5 mg of selegiline. Selegiline is a MAO-B inhibitor that increase the dopamine level. In his book "Advanced lucid dreaming", Thomas Yuschak talks about the positive impact of dopamine in lucid dreams. When he speaks about the risks of MAO inhibitors, he means MAO-A inhibitors. Nevertheless I have found in several web pages information about selegiline in the treatment of narcolepsy. They say that with high doses of selegiline (40 mg), the REM sleep latency increased and the number of sleep-onset REM periods decreased. I take very low doses, reason why I have not noticed that effect still. Although I feel its positive effects as nootropic, I would not want that it negatively affect my capacity to get lucid dreams. ¿What can you say me about this?.
Please, excuse my terrible english. Thanks.

Thats very interesting. Which dose do you take?
BTW I read that if used together wit L-Dopa it may cause blood pressure drop, so be careful.

I take 2,5 mg of selegiline daily or every two days.
I also have read on the risks of taking L-dopa. I never take it.
Thanks.

I have taken selegiline together with Mucuna Pruriens (a natural source for L-Dopa). I took 5 mg of selegiline once every few days.
This combination had no real effects on lucidity, but it made me quite horny and also had real "viagra"-like effects. The dopamine boost was useful in daily business also. It really "pushed me along", doing daily tasks was much easier and my motivation was great. It was sort of a small problem when I stopped using it.
Usually, my bloodpressure is rather low but I am still alive ;) But be careful anyway, I would not recommend that to anybody.

I think in this case you may just have to experiment. I'd go one month on and one off to see the difference.

You have to keep in mind that selegiline is an irreversible MAO-B inhibitor.
That means, when taking it, MAO-B in your system gets destroyed completely. The body will have to build new MAO-B then. And AFAIK that can take two to three weeks. So maybe one month off would be too short a time period.

Good point. Typically the body replaces most the MAOs within 4 days of stopping the drug, but effects can linger for weeks.

Thanks. I'm gonna stop taking selegiline for a couple of months and compare the diference. I cant say about the latency of REM sleep, but it's true that when I take selegiline I need more time to fall sleep. It happens with a pleasurable sensation, but I really sleep worse. It's like a mild cocaine effect.

"Selegiline, (-) propynylmethamphetamine, is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. ...Its major metabolites are 1-methamphetamine, 1-amphetamine and N-desmethylselegiline."
I would think it would delay sleep if its main metabolites are amphetamines. Be careful if you ever get drug tested with it in your system, you will likely be positive for amphetamine.
