View Full Version : Shallow Breathing and SP's/WILD's

WILD's are hard enough to achieve without the hindrance of shallow breathing. Does anybody else have this? I try my best to get to Sleep Paralysis but, during the day, and during the night, I HAVE TO take a deep breath to get some oxygen. But the thing that ruins it for me is the fact that to get this deep breath, I have to move my entire chest and abdomen to make it feel right. This tells my body that I am completely awake and I get frustrated so I stop.
Any tips on how to get over this?
Breath normally?
Little known fact: you don't actually have to stay still to WILD. The creator of the technique needed to stay still during testing so as not to disturb the equipment's sensors, not because it had anything to do with the technique. For whatever reason, the dreaming community has misinterpreted this.

This is your own perception. You know now that keeping your body still does not matter, and it never mattered.

I'd guess this is true. suppose it is possible for the brain to fall asleep before SP. we do it most nights.

Not sure its as simple as that. Some people use SP as a bridge to Lucid dreaming.
But to get to sleep paralysis, you can move beforehand. Even minutes beforehand. You can wake up in the middle of a dream and twiddle your fingers for a while (FILD technique) or turn off an alarm (DEILD technique, or normal laziness) and re-enter a dream within a minute.
Trying to keep still is torture for many people. Fidget until you don't realize you've stopped fidgeting. Comfort is key!

I hope this is true.
But what about all the talk of the body testing the dreamer.
Move and you won't get into SP.
Scratch and you won't get into SP.
I suppose the issue is whether you're moving because your bodys trying to make you move, or you're just moving normally.
Meaning the only time you don't have to move is immediately before SP when you're being tested.
The question is this then: how do you know when you're close to SP.
And how long is it after your tested before the body decides to induce SP.

I've actually found this to be true. The first time I FILDed, my entire body started vibrating except for the two moving fingers. It was like the vibrations had already taken care of the rest of the body and it was fighting to eat up the two moving fingers as well. As if it was like the black thing from Spiderman 3 trying to eat me up completely and it couldn't finish the two fingers. :)
I'd say its harder to achieve SP if you move your whole chest but it's always helpful to stop moving and even better, to believe it doesn't matter if you do.

I have the exact same thing. I usually repress it, but then I yawn. So I try coping by taking deep breaths throughout. That way I get my supply of oxygen while maintaining a steady breathing pattern.

Wow! Do you have a reference to this, Abra? This is totally consistent with my personal experience, but I've never seen a reference. It would like to include it in my article on sleep paralysis.
