Congratulations. That's the best thing you can do for your long term health (besides wearing your seat belt in the car).

I've recently been working myself down. I'm down to around 3ish a day, and I switched to American Spirits because they always advertise that they're "non-addictive." The blueberry blend is nice though.

Yeah, well this is kinda hard lol. I said I wouldn't so I will not smoke.
I have never heard of American Spirits.

They have a variety of nice flavors. Oh, one good thing to do is to buy some nicorette gum. You may need an 18 year old friend to do it for you, but it helps. It is a bit pricey though.
magical mike
01-30-2009, 12:39 PM
Yeah its pricey!! lol.
I think I need to extend my weening period a little lol.
I think that if I just ween myself off of it, I wont even notice a difference right?
oh an I looked up online, that those american spritis cost like 30$ a pack?
Good job :) My mom smokes and I hate it.

No way, the most I've ever payed for one was $7 out of a vending machine at a music hall. Maybe it was a carton?

Respect+ for this hilarious and clever saying.
If you want to stop smoking, you have to actually stop or you'll still have cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

I rarely smoked cigs (a few in my life).
I chew nicotine gum 4mg not to quit but because it makes me feel good. :P No health side effects either. I don't get why more people just don't do the gum. $30 for 170 pieces. That can last a long time.

01-30-2009, 05:48 PM
awsome, nice job.
my dad smokes a lot, he wants to give up, but he rathers not to. my mum smoked ages ago then she gave up, and by the way, chewing gum helped her a lot, you should try that. oh and by the way, sh went back and now she smokes again, but she says she doesnt want to want to quit (yea i did mean to put want to twice)
No health side effects either. I don't get why more people just don't do the gum.Certainly nicotine gum/patches are better for you than smoking tobacco, but nicotine itself does pose its own milder set of health risks, which include cancer (http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-wellbeing/health-news/nicotine-gum-and-patches-are-a-health-risk-676111.html), atherosclerosis (http://www.bio-medicine.org/biology-news-1/Nicotine-may-accelerate-atherosclerosis--may-be-as-dangerous-as-tar-371-1/), and long term desensitization of acetylcholine receptors (http://www.researchgrantdatabase.com/g/5R01DA007479-05/FUNCTIONAL-ACTIVITY-OF-PRESYNAPTIC-NICOTINIC-RECEPTORS/).

I would have to agree, the kids these days don't understand: you are either a smoker, or you aren't, nothing wrong with smoking other than you may die younger, but who the hell wants to live forever anyways?! ...its an understanding you get comfortable with when you're a smoker. It builds character.

Not wearing a seatbelt is probably the best way of hindering a potential heart attack 30 or 40 years later.

No.
You haven't quit smoking.
You may be quitting, but you haven't quit yet.
I'd say you have to be quitting for a year before you've properly quit.

of course, a short life would have things over and done with quickly, but it would give you a painful last 10-30 years of your life, whereas if you dont smoke, you may live longer, which you seem to think is a bad thing, but it wouldnt be a painful life.
one benifit of my dad smoking was, he used to have ahsma, but when he started smoking it went away, but it could have just been a coinsedence. but even if smoking was the cause of it, that one small good thing definetaly doesnt matdch all the bad things it has done to him, he has an ulcer because of it, he has a terrible cough, a cough kind of like a normal one, exept worse, and life long. and he has bad heartburn from the smallest things (im pretty sure that was caused by smoking, but im not 100% sure on that one) and thenn there is the obvious cost problem, which is really bad at this point, because he owns a buisness which is fucking up, so he is getting in a lot of debt, and the cost of fags is adding to it.
so, i se NO FUCKING REASON why smoking is a good thing.

01-31-2009, 01:56 PM
Well, it does have an effect mentally which I would call existential, some people like it, some don't, and it takes the edge of dying, and you grow a little wiser.
Its not, good, but its not bad. Dying to me is a beautiful thing, and a tragic thing, but its not good or bad.

I honestly don't see why quitting is so hard. I've smoked since I was 15, which is almost 4 years now. I smoke about a pack a day. Sometimes I won't smoke, like when I'm broke or occasionally when I just don't feel like smoking. I'll go without smoking for days or weeks at a time. It never bothers me at all. Seriously, what is so hard about this... I think it's all in your head. Like with lucid dreaming. If you truly believe it will be difficult to quit, it will be.
Good job though Mike, I've seen many people try to quit and fail. Good luck with that, it's bad for your health!
magical mike
02-02-2009, 08:41 PM
Yeah it use to not be hard for me!
Like when I was 13, sometimes I just forgot about smoking!
Yeah maybe I should ask my mom for some patches lol.
Or maybe my doctor?

Your theory is immediatley negated by the fact that nicotine is an addictive substance, meaning the longer you smoke, the more withdrawal and dependence you have on it.

No I think your thinking about Black_eagle!
But yeah, hes a jerk, I bent a card (My room is full of playing cards, there all over the wall, probably 10,000 cards seriously)
So I brent on in an L shape, and Place it carefully wedged in my door. And when I went back down stairs like an hour later. It was moved all the way back.
And Brent said he went in my room for like 20 mins by himself (Why brent was playing games! Why would he not stop him?) Oh well.
-edit oh yeah, like 1 week after Christmas, he wanted to put me in my strait jacket. so I let him, But he shackled The chaines with 2 pad locks (One for each foot) Tightly against my ankles so there really was no way out of the shackles. (there were two locks 1 key for each lock, and 1 key worked for both lock, But I told him otherwise, I got out using the key, but told him I picked it. I cant pick those locks, I already tried, the pins are like Pyramid shaped, so the pick falls of to the side all the time.

Congrats. Though I've never had a problem with cigarette addiction. I've smoked a lot, a lot, a lot, probably the equivalent of a carton or two, but I've never had a craving, withdrawal, a nic-out, nothing.
The only times I ever smoked were when they were offered to me, I was bored at work, drunk, etc. Then I started thinking, 'Wait... what is this doing for me?' and started playing the entire mind over matter role and declining everytime a cigarette was offered or the thought of asking for one when someone smoked in front of me. It's as simple as saying no, but some people can't get that far.
Willpower, everyone has it, not everyone uses it.

Oh as soon as my mom left this morning my brother (Johnathon) smoked in hi room.. omg. And he keeps lieing and hes all like "Mom I swear I only smoked one, with jordan!"
And he has smoked more, and longer than me, and I am older than him.. oh welll.

Well I kinda failed today..
(I dinthave any cravings, I just wanted to smoke a bud from my friend to see what it was like now).
And I smoked like two hits off it. And I sarted seeing stuff! I thought I was dreaming! I seen the ground start to swirl in a little 3x3 part.
I looked away, and were ever I looked I seen it (Much like when you look at the sun) But it was not light or anything like that, it was swirlies, Clear swirlies that was like liquid glass or something levetating, magnifing what itwas standing over.
it lasted for about 2 mins, it freaked me out! I thought I was dreaming, so I did a RC.. but I was not dreaming.
Why did this happen?
(Oh I dont wish to smoke or anything, because it made me kinda sick.)

No, I mean originally why did you start? You probably started to hallucinate because you were satisfying your craving. Just goes to show what it can do to you.
By the way, if you say you're going to stop, you have to STOP! You can't pull this "I wanna smoke one to treat myself to see what it's like" bullshit. You've got to exercise power of will.
