Just curious to know what book(s) everyone are currently reading, if you read that is.

I'm in a bit of a neo-philosophical-spiritual mood lately so I am currently reading "Going Home - Jesus and Buddha as Brothers" by Thich Nhat Hanh and "The Complete Works of Lao Tzu" translated by Hua-Ching Ni.

What about you?

I've recently read (in order):

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams
The Long Dark Tea Time Of the Soul by Douglas Adams
Catcher in the Rye by J.D Saligner
The Private Life of Genghis Khan by Douglas Adams

I'm currently reading:

The Meaning of Liff by Douglas Adams.

I'd reccomend all those books to you now. I've warezed them all onto my Palm, which is an immensely useful tool (as is iSilo (http://isilo.com)).

I am in the middle of reading many books.

I am still reading the basic writings of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. Namely Freuds "Three Contributions to the Theory of Sex."
Also, "Man and His Symbols" by Carl Jung.
Toxic Psychiatry
Brain Calipers (University Text)
Charles Drawin's "Origin of Species"
Science Matters
and several articles from Science magazine and from the Society of Neuroscience.

I would recommend these books.. only if you are interested in these fields. :-P

Everyone here so far seems to be into all the heavy reading type of stuff.
Car audio mags recently, and lots of online dream related articles/guides. Last book read was
Paul Davies, title was something like space, superspace, quantem mechanics bla bla. Very interesting, but Theory of relativity in laymesn terms was better and easier to read.

I love it. It's a little sporadic and Carl Jung, especially, tends to go off into tangents. However, the content is great and rather simplified to actually.

Von Frans is quite interesting to.. good work. The images within the book are great to. I love how dreams are held with such quintessential importance throughout all the symbolism.

What are science fiction books like, really addictive and stuff?

It does seem as though I can be perceived ostentatious every now and then. However, I really hate to circumvent my vocabulary unless absolutely necessary (for example, talking to someone with a double digit IQ).

I am betting you are concentrating on the word "quintessential" in my previous post which was easier for me to say rather than "a consistent underlaying point." It's just easier.... I'm not trying to be a braggart.

I've seen you drop this "big, unnecessary words" idea in other threads, so I'm going to respond to it for a sec. Like O'nus, I often find it easier to express myself with one 12-letter word rather than half a dozen 3- and 4-letter words. I have lots of words in my vocabulary, because I've read thousands of books, including during childhood when my base vocabulary was coming together, and sometimes my brain is liable to throw out a fifty-center rather than a penny-special. You'll find a fair number of people on the internet in the same predicament. We don't wrack our brains coming up with these words to confuse you--because of our life experiences, they are the most natural, easiest words for us to use. So, should we make the effort to restrict our vocabulary, maybe wire an electro-shock device to our spellcheckers until we can't even think "hegemony" or "catharsis" without twitching? Or would it be more beneficial to everyone if you opened up a dictionary now and then?

Well, I've developed a habit of reading multiple books at once. Not just one or two...well, you'll see. My current list of books I'm reading (not going to read or have read)

The Spiritual Universe; How Quantum Physics Proves the Existance of a Soul (mentioned this on another board somewhere...)

Tales, Volumes I & II as well as Best of Tales (part of the Dragon Lance series. My friend kept pestering me to try them, so I did.)

Some Star Wars book for mindless entertainment. (Shatterpoint or something like that)

Sum of All Fears

Rainbow 6 (Tom Clancy ROCKS)

Digital Fortress (Just started this one. I haven't really been impressed with Dan Brown's stuff in the past, but maybe it'll get better. Da Vinci code and Angels and Demons were both crap...)

A biography of Porter Rockwell (don't remember the title, but he's a really interesting guy)

Oh, and countless mangas thrust into my hands my my friend. Some wound up being interesting. Here's a list of what I'm reading now

Angelic Layer (Just finished Chobits, so I thought I'd start this one)

Negima (I'm on 2, but I'd have to say this is the best manga I've read yet. Second would be Love Hina. Gotta love Ken Akamutsu. did I spell that right?)

.Hack (Barely started)

Rave Master (Unwillingly started. Seems like I'll unwillingly finish, too.)

Ai Aori Ayoshi (I KNOW I didn't spell that right.)

Mahoromatic (Hm...I think this is the fifth manga with questionable content he's recomended to me. Either him or the manga artists (or both) need girl friends BADLY.)

And a few others I can't remember. Yeah. Hope I didn't scare anybody.

This won't surprise many of you, but I am currently reading "Fight Club" the novel by Chuck Palahniuk...

I have a list of books I should order on amazon, but then again I am lazy...if someone has a good resource for ebooks, then do share

This is one case where I found the movie WAY better than the book.
