Several methods of LD induction talk about requiring anywhere from 3-6 hours of sleep beforehand. Is this step completely necessary for all of them, or is it only for some and just helpful for others? I'm a really deep sleeper, and I can essentially rule out any method that requires waking up after some sleep.

Thanks!

As far as we know it's not actually required for any of them, just highly recommended.

If you rely on DILD methods you won't have to worry about waking up in the middle of the night at all. If you focus on the DEILD type of WILD, then you can make use of your own natural awakenings when the waking process has already been done for you.
