OK. So I've noticed when I'm lying in bed trying to fall asleep and thinking about my day, all of a sudden I hear people talking and then I start to see faint images or like video type things in my head. This happens a lot now lately, does this mean that I'm about to dream or enter the dream world?

It's probably a sign that you are starting to fall asleep but not necessarily a dream state yet!

I believe those are called Hypnogogic Hallucinations. That stuff comes when you're about to fall asleep.

Yup, those are Hypnagogic Hallucinations. It's like the beginnings of a dream state.

Yes, this is called Hypnagogic Hallucinations. It's when your brain is trying to figure out what is reality and what isn't.

As you are drifting off to sleep, you will often experience hypnagogic hallucinations. This can be both images and sounds. If you are just going to bed, then you are not entering REM, so dreams are not likely. (However, it is possible to dream in NREM sleep, they are just not as vivid.)
If you have woken up during the night, though, and you are experiencing hypnagogia, then you are almost definately about to enter a dream. This is actually the basis for a WILD. Stay concious through it and you will soon be in a lucid dream.

As mentioned, they are hypnogogic images, etc... and if you stay conscious during this state, you will enter a dream. If this is happening when you awake in the middle of the night OR when you get to bed after sleeping badly or really exhausted, I would hazard a guess that you'll enter a REM period due to REM rebound(first part) and being really exhausted(guess here) :P
