Hey, so I've been practicing WILD with the WBTB method for quite some time now, and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the ideal time that you should wake up, as well as how long you should stay awake before you go back to sleep. The reasons for my confusion are:
1. Originally, I would sleep for about five hours and then wake up (using an alarm). However I found that after five hours I often would be too awake to fall back asleep quickly. After some experimentation, I found that if I woke up after three hours, I would be able to fall back asleep fairly quickly, and after three hours of sleep I would be near a REM period (since I would often times wake up from a dream). So would three hours work, or is there some reason why the four to six hours is more ideal for WILD attemps.
2. I was always unsure of how long to stay awake during the WBTB. Many people suggest staying up for 60 to 90 minutes, however I found that this works better for MILD than WILD. So I've been staying up for five minutes, yet I often times fall asleep too quickly. Any suggestions?

If anyone with some WILD experience could help me out that would be great!

Well i don't know much about it but ill try to answer something from my point of view:

1.) Why 5-6 hours? Probably because then the REM periods are longer and pauses between them shorter ( so you can get into REM quickly )
But also 3 hours is ok,but you'll have to find whether it works or not for you.

2.) Well stay awake as much as you can.If you can fall asleep quickly(or do wild ) after 60 minutes , stay up for 60 minutes if you cant reduce time and see at what point you can fall asleep quickly ( or do wild ).

That is all I can say.

Short time might work. I recorded my REM cycles starting sometimes after 1.30h however I would suggest 4.5h minimum as soon after most people have the longest REM cycles and it's much easier then.
As for stying awake time I would try something longer then 5 min and see when you can keep your awareness longer.
Actually it's more or less what Supernova said...
