View Full Version : This place is far too tense

Ever sinse Ice got rid of the forums a few moths back, you've been able to cut the atmosphere here with a knife, people who try to joke are shunned. If you show the slightest origionality, you are shunned. If you disaree with somthing, you are shunned. In fact, we are getting to much useless crap happening, it's taking away from the use of the forum. I understand if you guy's don't want to upset Ice in case he does it again, but don't try to take away peoples freedom in the process. Feel free to act differently, don't take shit from Nazi mods and most importantly, speak your mind.
I'm using a defferent name to avoid being shunned for my ideas some people here are too petty. If you were feeling especially petty, you could ip trace me. But that would just prove what I have said.

I think what we have here is irony. You see, in all my time here, one thing I've learned is to have skin thick enough to cut with a knife -- 'cuz if you don't, you could be horribly offended and think that everyone is a jerk. However, I've learned that's not true. Like your average typical non-lucid, sometimes things don't really make sense, but you have to just take them with a grain. Don't complain, improvise. Find a way around your problems, don't just bitch. That's why -- I think -- Ice-sama shut down the forums before, 'cuz everybody was running paranoid. You just gotta ride on with the flow of things, get used to it, find your niche. See to the heart of people before you judge and self-shun.
Ride on now, ride on now, vibration, baby, baby! And LIGHTEN UP, NE?!

Well, I kinda agree with you. But I suppose when Ice brought back the forum, the idea was to forget the past...

I don't think it was irony, why the fuck would someone post that?
I do see this guy's reasoning. It isn't the welcoming old DV anymore. It's just not the good ol' DV.
The idea was to forget the past, no one has.

Well there's that too. I get the feeling I know who that might be, but I'll not say who. Yea, it just hasn't been the same lately...

I can't say I've experienced that at all.
I think you're taking this forum way too personally and seriously
Like Truth tends to say - its all words. Words only offend when you allow them to.
Like I said, I haven't noticed any problems myself... but assuming there are...
Forums ride in waves of rises and dips. Maybe we're in a dip?
Its nothing to be worried about, it'll rise again ;)

Well, "Sky" said that "people who try to joke are shunned" -- the way I see it, it's the people who joke are seen as "Nazi mods" and such. Like I said, you kind of have to LIGHTEN UP a little and at least TRY and find your niche here. And I don't think we should forget the past either. As George Santayana said, "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

Ah, sorry, I suppose I phrased that wrong. When I think about it, I could have made it "Learn from the past" and probably should have.

I think this dude was trying to point out how we haven't learned from the past.

Um...I don't think so. Read what the Skyster said again.
What it all comes down to is taking things too seriously. That's a problem I've had, and I'm grateful to everyone here who's helped me get over that -- like Kaniaz, and Paperdoll, and Dutch Cutie, and the others.

Hey Sky, there is no need to hide yourself from us. I think you might be going against what youre saying by choosing a different name. But hey, its ok! I can remember a long long long time ago, there was a much bigger issuse like this. It had the whole forum twisted but we all talked it through. The thread titled "Improve the world? Lets start with this forum", under The Lounge, third from the top.
Peace and Love to you all!

There has been a host of improvements to avoid just what you are talking about. Dreamguides have been implemented for a warm welcome for newbies, more Moderaters, and some really intrigueing new Forums and Teams.
It sounds like you think the Moderaters are the problem. And as far as I have been instructed the use of power is no greater than it has ever been. Of coarse there can always be an abuse of power. Just like keeping a government in check the members need to speak up if they feel that is going on.

I wrote a poem to clear this identity thing up.
Reala likes to fly,
Fly high it the Sky,
Well a two line thing really.
Anyhoo. I do see the improvements, all I was trying to say is chill, this isn't all important. Being too serious was somthing that doomed us in the past. Let's not let it happen again.

What are you on about? There's no tension here, let alone "nazi mods". Nobody gets shunned for anything. Sure, maybe sometimes your idea or joke or whatever didn't go down as well as you expected, but some of you guys are speaking as if Dreamviews is dying due to evil dictatorship or something, and unless we do something about it the forum will collapse. I doubt it, I've been here very nearly a year now, and there's nothing chronically wrong in my opinon. There are a few things that I don't agree on, but that's only to be expected - it's a public forum and if you expect every single thing to go your way and for everybody to love you, then you are very much mistaken.
As for "not learning from the past", somehow I doubt it. icedawg has done pratically everything humanly possible to make people feel welcome here after "first time", he's worked *very* hard to please people. The mods are all great folks - kudos to them - and I'm happy to know them. There's no longer any "I hate u" stuff between newbies and the "in" people, and now you say that it's "useless crap". We also don't have freedom? What?!?! I mean, I could of dressed this post up to make my opinon seem alot less softer and happier, but after all that's been done for Dreamviews from icedawg, Seeker, the mods, the DGs, the team members, the artists, the regulars, the newbies, the adoptees, the adopters, you have got to be joking about this. It's great here.
And I should note that if Dreamviews has "no freedom", you should try some other forums. If you express dissent for anything there, you're banned. Forever. If you piss off a mod, or they get pissed off for no reason, you get banned. Forever. That dosen't happen here. icedawg, seeker and the mods are as leninent as is possible without just asking for everybody to cause anarchy.
Shall we just trash all that and go back to the "old days", just delete a few thousand members, go back down in the google rankings, so we can relieve some of those cherished moments when DV was a small place? I mean, I did like it back then, but now is just as good - if not better. I like helping some of the newbies here. One recently said to me, "I'm impressed with all the helpful people here!". They didn't mention anything about being shunned for anything. Maybe I've been overlooking the topics with all this shunning and censorship and evil-plots-to-make-everybody-upset.
So yeah. Boo.

hrm. usually when someone expresses discontent i at least have a vague idea of just what exactly the problem is, but unfortunately this time i just don't see what's wrong. i mean, i really really don't know what you're talking about. :(
anyway, as stated in the announcements section, Seeker handles all board administration issues, so there's no reason to worry about me taking down the board. he is, however, starting to see just what upset me so much, because there's always so much unrest between members and there's no way to appease everybody...we do what we can to make someone happy, and that upsets someone else. if i had my way we'd all be quite happy and continue on our merry way. regardless, he seems to handle it much better than i.
we're totally open to ideas on how to improve whatever is wrong. unfortunately telling us something is wrong, without elaborating, and without suggesting improvements, doesn't get any of us anywhere. suggesting improvements is probably most important, because i sure don't know what i'm doing...maybe seeker has better insight than i, but i'm sure he'd appreciate tangible improvements being suggested as well.
also, there's always an instigating incident that instills an idea in someone's head, and once someone has that idea, it's easy to view everything else through that filter, thus seeing everything related as wrong; that's kind of like when you decide you don't like someone, and then begin to see everything he or she does as wrong. so what started all of this?

Seems like Sky thought there was some underlying social collapse of sorts on the forum...can't say I've seen any indication of it. There's always a few bad cookies that fly under the radar, but you can't let stupid fucks like those get to you (or if you see it, to other users). Stand up for yourself, and only when it's a big problem (ie, so-and-so calls you "a -explitive added- moron. drop dead. I will knife your parents. Don't be alone...") like harrassment, take it to admin and clean the forum up. Self preservation of the continiuity of this forum is what we need.

A lot of good points so far. Esp Kaniaz
The ones that stick out for me:
1) The mods do a hellova lot of work for us. If there's a problem - what is it? Cos it sure isn't from lack of trying...
2) If the forum is so bad, how come the Dream Guides get PM's saying 'wow - these forums are so helpful and nice' (me incl.)
3) Other forums are way more tense. I find the site quite pleasant. I feel that you have allowed a particular minor event to colour your view of the entire forum. Since we don't know what it is, it leaves us in confusion...

Ah don't worry about this, I was just on a bitching spree then. All I was mainly on about was that you guy's shouldn't be so serious and that it we do continue being so tense, history may repeat itself. Sory for using you as the example Ice, it was the only one I could think of at the time. Also the Nazi mod thing was me exagerating a bit.

Folks please talk to me about things like this. I saw this topic for the first time this morning and my reaction was WTF?
I've been handling petty disputes between members for a while now as Icedawg has mentioned. As far as I know, there are no serious issues, just personality conflicts which are to be expected from a forum as large and diverse as this one is becoming.
Sky, I know who you are (IP address).
I say again, if any of you have concerns or things you think need fixing, please talk to me about it. I want to keep this a fun and friendly place.

That was you? Hishtagata?! Leshaim shamayim, next time don't feel like you should have to pull such a stunt! But that's okay, we all have our moments of naive anger.
Heh, now it makes sense that you would know what "Sky" meant.

Sky means nothing really, I just use it now and then. And Seeker, it was just me being moody and ranty. Nothing much. I just like it when this place is more relaxed. Thats all.

I'm with Kaniaz. (great post btw.)
I fail to see any of this negativity. I think some people are just too easliy offended, and think that everything is directed at them or something. sometimes I think maybe they take comments a little too seriously. I haven't seen anything sky described at all, I've seen a few little arguments here and there...unless that's what youre talking about? if so, you're blowing it -way- out of proportion.

I'm totally new here, so I have no idea of how it was and I haven't got any long experience of this forum.
But, I searched the net, and I stopped here. I think that this site is great.
*Someone*, not something, actually messages you when you register. And, I've gotten great responses to all of my posts. This not telling much because of so few posts, but still.
The information is great, and I think that the closeness to the "top" is great.
When I mailed icedawg about a registering problem, I got a response like 2 days later. I thought I'd have to wait the standard time of a week.
I actually felt welcome here the moment I stepped a foot in here. I don't know if this applies for other newbies, but I think that the efforts made to welcome us is great.
And.. The design is GREAT.
A great site, overall. I don't think that the critics are well-deserved, at all.
