View Full Version : Don't have time to Recall

On weekdays I have to wake up for school and its a pretty tight morning schedule. Anyways, I don't really have time in the morning after my alarm goes off to sit there with my eyes closed and remember my dreams or to write in my dream journal. This forces me to remember quick and lose some details about my dreams, even forgetting major points of the dream which I remembered in the morning but forgot.
Any ideas?

I'm just gonna be mister obvious here and simply advise waking up 5-10 minutes earlier and devoting that time to recall. If that's unacceptable in terms of amount of sleep, then go to bed that much earlier as well. If this is unacceptable due to a TV show you watch (The only imaginable reason it would be) then...try to think about anything you remember in your dreams during the day. This will eventually lead to recalling more and more details.
And if you're one of those kinds of people who see a free hour in their weekly planner, or what have you, and fills it with some other selfless activity because that's how you were programmed as a child more than likely due to child abuse or trauma, then I believe being as DV just might not be for you...

Hehe...is it very obvious that one of my ex-girlfriends was "one of those people" and that thinking about it enrages me? Other than that spiel though, my advice should still hold water.

hi there,
Conzo,
a few things, cuz i have that issue too
1- your mind is incredible at knowing what time it is.. so you actually can teach your mind to wake up a little earlier than your alarm
2- get a tranquil alarm if need be so you are not blasted but nudged (iphones have lots of options and sometimes you can often shake the alarm quiet without even reaching too far), hear a river (at low volume) start to run or a light turn on or a chime go off gently in the distance...
3) get a recorder and start recording asap - i find i lose a lot of info if i wait too long.
4) practice really helps, i got better over time.
5) is there any time when you can plan to sleep in and not be woken up by an alarm? that would be really nice. you get lots of good dream time a little later in the day (like 8 to 9 am) or even during the day, so it would be a treat to wake up natually every now and then.
welcome to the board,
hope this helps,

Yes, during the weekends. My alarm is only for waking up early for school.

You can make time if it is important enough to you. No excuses. Just do it.

even during the week...
i have been impressed at my ability to wake up before my alarm goes off.
i set my iphone for 4 am (WBTB) say and i get up at 3:58.
more and more i get the power we have to control our worlds.
of course i have a lot more to get myself, okay? ...
but i want to encourage you to open your mind.
that would be the best.
wake up 10 minutes before your alarm.
who knows, could be time to squeeze in a DEILD!
it's no different than training yourself to do reality checks, go lucid, etc...
just a matter of getting that you can do it!
warmly,
bg~~~

well although the obvious answer is waking up a few minutes earlier, that is easier said then done, especially with my fast paced American life style.

I can relate, I haven't had time for dream recall for the past year or so. Dreams have left my life and sleep became dreamless. It is from my lack of sleep habits. All you have to do, is set your bed time back.. or wake up a bit earlier, like previously stated.
