For some reason i am having a hard time meeting and interacting with dream characters.
is this a common problem?
I seem to get other goals of mine accomplished.
maybe i am too focused on these other things...like stabilizing, learning how to move around, etc...
any tips on ways to do a better job?
Many thanks,
beachgirl

I used to have problems with really boring, almost robot-like DCs. When I would try to talk to them, I would get odd sarcastic responses that made no sense.

It wasn't until a wise old man who used to be a member of this forum told me that I needed to start treating my DCs with the utmost respect, that I started getting anything truly worthwhile from them. Soon after that, I began having in depth and very powerful conversations with some DCs. And I had also been given "gifts" (hard to explain) by others. If you think that your DCs are all just a manifestation of you in different ways, then it makes sense. If you show them more respect, you show yourself more respect, and your subconscious is likely to give you more in return.

When I started doing more spiritual things in my dreams like praying (even though I'm not religious) and speaking with a Dream Guide (don't know if it was necessarily "mine") ...then I found that my subconscious would give me some extremely amazing gifts during my lucid experiences. There were spiritual gifts, but I'll give a more simple and tangible example. It was spring time and I missed winter because I was abroad, and I wanted it to snow very badly. Anyways, one morning I found myself lucid and opened my balcony door to fly out as I usually do...and it was snowing! I didn't make that happen. Not consciously. It was a gift from my subconscious. I couldn't believe it. It was like direct communication in a way. I flew around in the snow and loved every minute of it, knowing full well that it was a gift for me.

hmmm... funny you should write this.
last night i did kind of treat my dc's a litte impolitely...
i came back to apologize but ... no luck.

i guess that raises another question though, is everyone in a dream a dc?
or are just some people?
i mean, my id is my id, and, hey, it's pretty raw sometimes....

and thank you, i really like what you said...

warmly,

I can second Aquanina's advice. And I believe the same thing--about dreams in general, on top of DCs.

For example, I often have people complaining that their dreams are just boring or bland. I ask them if they pay attention to their dreams, or think that dreams in general are meaningful (not as in the pop culture "x-dreams-means-y," just in general). My advice is usually to at least be open to the idea that their dreams can be interesting or meaningful. Even starting a dream journal tells your subconcious "hey! I'm paying attention to you. I'm giving you my respect. Please show me whatever you want me to know."

IMO, same can be said for DCs. The more interest you take in them, and the more you are open to learning from them instead of treating them like toys (no offense to anyone who likes to blow up DCs, to each his own), the more likely I think they will act human instead of cardboard cutouts or not existing at all.

Hey... thanks everyone.
I just met a great dream character this morning. I was brushing him off... and went LUCID instead. (I incubated this to some extent) --- listen to someone giving me advice... respectfully. It was actually my cue...It was way fun!!!
Very lucid, very vivid dream (and fun party)!
I got so totally rewarded.... and the advice was excellent, too.

I've never had a problem with meeting and interacting with DCs. I just expect, or at least pretend to expect, them coming around the corner or appearing behind me and acting/responding a certain way.

i actually have this weird problem with DCs. When i am not lucid, they act a lot like real people and are pretty complex, but whenever i become lucid, they become very simple and/or unresponsive.
It can be really weird. In one dream i was talking to a guy about religion, and then become lucid. When i became lucid i asked him what it was like to be a dream character and he said "thats a good question, there were not many black DCs until the 60s and 70s." this just confused me so i asked again and he said "well, i have not had many patients lately."
I another dream when i was lucid i was making out with a girl and became lucid and remembered i wanted to ask a girl (who i thought might represent my anima) what it was like to be a girl. When i asked her she just shook her head and started kissing me again.
its happened on other occasions as well. when i am lucid they just either start speaking gibberish or shake their heads when i talk to them.
