(I know there was another DV Meet-up thread around here, somewhere, but I've searched and can't seem to find it.)

So a bunch of us are planning to meet up for a few days of sun and thrill-rides, here in Florida, next summer. So far, it looks like we are aiming for July, somewhere in the Daytona Beach / Orlando area.

The official dates are July 9 - 11
(Getting there early Friday morning, staying Saturday, leaving out Sunday afternoon)

Hotel - Josh and I (you're welcome to room with us to cut down on the pricing) will either be staying at Perry's Ocean Edge Resort (http://perrysoceanedge.com/), the Daytona Beach Oceanside Inn (http://www.daytonabeachoceansideinn.com/), or Plaza Resort & Spa (http://www.plazaresortandspa.com/hotel.php). All of them are located in Daytona.

Activities - We'll have a meet and greet Friday around noon in the lobby of one of the hotels we'll (as in one of us going) will be staying at. Afterward, we'll hit a few theme parks. Epcot (http://www.floridathemeparks.com/resources/Epcot.html), and Islands of Adventure (http://www.floridathemeparks.com/resources/Universal-Studios-Islands-of-Adventure.html) are two theme parks we'll be going to. One on Friday, one on Saturday. Both theme parks are located in Orlando.

There will also be para-sailing, jett-skiing, shopping and (possibly) canoeing spread out among these days (some being done on Sunday morning - afternoon before departure).

Bring cameras, lots of film (or memory cards) because this is sure to be an event you won't soon be forgetting!!!

If you're wanting to room with us, please let me know. We'll be booking our room next month!!!

I've been wanting to do something like this. I think it's a shame the location
wouldn't be a little more centrally located for convenience, but at the moment I
can say that I'd be a-go for the trip. I have the funds and am itching to go
somewhere.

I have trouble planning two weeks ahead, much less the better part of a year, but I might consider this if I can get a cheap flight. I tend to allot my summer funds to music, and I'm probably booked for the weekend of 7/17/10, but it looks like a good crew shaping up and I haven't seen the ocean in a while :)

Maybe if a secondary core group comes together, another beach house can be arranged for a weekend.

Hmmm, this sounds a really good idea, me and CC were actually talking about how cool an idea this would be about a month ago, I never thought someone would organise it.

But hell, I don't even know what is happening with me next year, what with university and all. And I don't know if flying over to America would interrupt anything like that. Nor do I know if I will have the money.

But if I end up being able to go (i.e. time and money) I would definitely come along.

EDIT: oh wait, I just realised I wouldn't start Uni till AFTER the summer. Which means all I need to worry about is money.

I might get a wee summer job. I Would be able to tell you guys whether I can come or not at a nearer time. I might not know whether or not until about January or February. I hope that's all right.

Anyway, depending on which week, July would probably work. My extended family usually takes a week-long vacation during July, but that's usually a little later in the month, I believe. Again, we'll see how much money I come back to, but I'm still 70% sure I'm going. We'll definitely have to bring this back up as it draws closer to the date.

One problem I have which is probably a bigger issue than the money. I'm quite nervous about flying alone. I will need to get over that. I'm not talking about the actual flight, it's the organization and stuff, and also once I'm at America, the place is just totally alien to me. I have never gone to another country alone.

But I'm sure I would be fine.

Also, as far as lodging is concerned, there are a lot of very inexpensive hotels around the Daytona area. I doubt that anybody or any group would have a hard time finding a place to stay.

Good question. But I'm just asking because those who "say" they are going shouldn't just say it b/c it simply sounds like a nice idea. People on the list should be over 50% sure they're going. Airfair, driving, lodging prices, food etc. all being factored into the equation.

I guess my point is...I'd really love it if all of you all could go, really I would. But I really don't foresee anyone other than, me, ames, aorozco, mos, pati, o, and boss hanging out in Florida. How many of you would really take a trip to meet a bunch of people they don't know in person just by seeing a thread on a forum announcing a meetup? The FL trip was something we all (save for ames) had discussed in length over the phone (since we talk on the phone to each other all the the time anyway :P).

Pati lives an hour or so from me and is driving down to my pad, aorozco is doing the same, Ames is looking into flights to ren de vous with us, we're picking MoS up on the way to FL and boss and O stay 30 min. - 1 hr. from the city in which we're currently pricing lodging in.

All I'm saying, is seriously think this out guys before saying "Yeah! count me in!" Less hopes will be crushed when thw time comes and you don't show up because you may have thought it was just a "cool idea" at the time but weren't really entertaining the thought of going, let alone HOW you could go.

Think about it seriously guys before saying you'll be there. I hope you all can..

I've been wanting to do a road trip for awhile, I'm likely to drive. This would more or less give me a reason to plan a vacation, even if I can't wear my mask when I drink shitty beer. I doubt anything will come up over the next year, so I don't see why I wouldn't be able to get in my car and drive down the east coast. I've done it before, been to Daytona already.

Speaking of driving, if anyone lives on the east coast (from Michigan) I can pick you up. No need to pay for gas either, I have enough money to shell out on useless shit anyway.

Indeed, it will be really tough - I'd personally have to save up a ton. I figure if I can save up a couple thousand, then I'll be all set. Though, the way I look at it, we'll know if I can go or not at least a month in advance.

And as for flying/driving out to see a bunch of people I've never met? A good question. What would warrant such a vast expenditure of resources for something like that? Well, even if it's a possibility, if it's at great expense to myself, then it's likely not worth it.

But I mean, I don't know how many of you have met up with other people over the internet. I never have. Unless you count that girl from CT that I met over the phone and then dated, with no internet involved. Seriously, though. Meeting that girl was a mind fuck (in a good way). For a DV meet-up, I can only imagine it would be 10 times that. It is probably something none of us will forget. Unless we black-out...

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm only about 28%. July is maybe the busiest month of the year for me, between family parties and music festivals, but there are some peoples in this crew that I'm sure would be a blast to party with, and that large body of salt water I'm rather fond of :D

Though I do find it hard to visualize myself hanging out with other members from the site,

be on my side. I'm not looking at this as only a means to hang out with you guys,
but as an opportunity to do more traveling. I've never been to Florida, or through a lot of
the south/midwest. A few friends would likely accompany me, but all I'm saying in the
end is that this is a trip that I'm very likely to make.

I have RL friends who are familiar with various incarnations of "taosaur," but when they say it they're referencing a project or activity, so it doesn't feel like 'my name' (though it's a more unique identifier than my RL name--to my knowledge I'm still the one and only Taosaur). The only online alias I'm used to answering to, due to Ventrilo and voice chats, is "Vudu."

I did have an occasion where a friend was trying to get my attention but I was off in my own little world. She finally called out "Amethyst!" and I turned to her without any hesitation. A few years later in a cafeteria I thought I heard someone call out "Amethyst" but couldn't see who it was. A minute later when I had all my food I heard it again and saw my friend (:smitten:) at a nearby table.

That might be fun. I'll see if I can get permission from "The Boss" aka, my social coordinator, aka my girlfriend. If she ends up coming, too, she will join in the battle-royale. She's a professional fighter, and will probably wipe the floor with all of you.

I've never been to Florida. I'm a pacific kind of guy, but anywhere with beaches is alright in my book.

I'd say I'm at about 50% right now. I'm really not sure how much money I'll be coming back to when I return to the states, and I'll probably have to find a job and I don't know if I can wait until August to start. I'll definitely keep you posted, but I'm just not sure if it's going to work out.

I would absolutely LOVE to attend this. I live in Florida, not 2 hours from Daytona/Orlando, it's the middle of the summer. If nothing else, I could even work up the funds myself.

The ONLY problem would be getting my parents to allow me.
If I can find some way over that (and it is a huge hurdle, trying to get them to let me go somewhere with a bunch of people I met over the interent :P) I might just attend.

This has been talked about for at least a year (probably longer) even if I can't make it, glad it's finally happening.

Hotel - Josh and I (you're welcome to room with us to cut down on the pricing) will either be staying at Perry's Ocean Edge Resort (http://perrysoceanedge.com/), the Daytona Beach Oceanside Inn (http://www.daytonabeachoceansideinn.com/), or Plaza Resort & Spa (http://www.plazaresortandspa.com/hotel.php). All of them are located in Daytona.

Activities - We'll have a meet and greet Friday around noon in the lobby of one of the hotels we'll (as in one of us going) will be staying at. Afterward, we'll hit a few theme parks. Epcot (http://www.floridathemeparks.com/resources/Epcot.html), and Islands of Adventure (http://www.floridathemeparks.com/resources/Universal-Studios-Islands-of-Adventure.html) are two theme parks we'll be going to. One on Friday, one on Saturday. Both theme parks are located in Orlando.

There will also be para-sailing, jett-skiing, shopping and (possibly) canoeing spread out among these days (some being done on Sunday morning - afternoon before departure).

Bring cameras, lots of film (or memory cards) because this is sure to be an event you won't soon be forgetting!!!

I want to go sooooo bad!!! But since I'm paying for my school and will be taking summer classes I just don't think I'll have the money for it!! I could even come because it's on a weekend!! I checked plane tickets for those dates, they were about $300. So for me it's just money, if I can come up with the money...I will be there!! And I'd want to room with you guys. :) If you don't mind rooming with a girl.

We've got a few months still. Why not start a sort of pot to throw in extra money to help out anyone that may not be able to afford the trip? I doubt I'll be able to contribute much myself, as I'll be saving up for college in the fall and the move later in July, but I'll throw in anything I can. Or we could just help out who we see needs help, individually. :)

I don't really like the idea of taking money from anyone...but I really need to come to this. I'm going to try and rack my brain for how I can come up with some quick cash in the next few months. I'm usually good at this sort of thing, but have let it go recently due to being completely focused on school. If I can't then I'll probably have to take a loan for summer quarter...but hey...it might pay for the trip heh.

I don't think I can go. Two reasons. I don't have money to spare. And 9th of july is my birthday
I really fucking want to go though. But yea... Cause I'm going to university, I need as much money as possible. Tbh, I don't care about the birthday thing... I would probably still go.
However, my mind might change. I might end up with money to spare. It all depends on the price of it all together, and how soon I get a job.

...I'll have a look at plane ticket prices etc. etc.

Also, that shit looks totally awesome. Para sailing, I've always wanted to try that. And Epcot is real good. And all that other stuff sounds great.
...Also sounds expensive :P
