Have you ever talked to your parents about wierd stuff?

I mean things like lucid dreaming, oobe, etc. I actually found out my mom can do everything I can. She never talked about it before I said something to her about my ability to do it. It makes me wonder if being able to lucid dream, leave your body (real oobes), and things of that nature are all hereditary. My sister can also do some of these things. Does anyone have a similar situation?

Naw, one doesn't inherit lucid dreaming ability. There is no "lucid dreaming gene." A lot of people probably do it, but many either don't know what it is or don't think it is worth mentioning. All a coincidence I believe. That, or it has to do with the environment that one grows up in. If their parents tell them that it is impossible to lucid dream, or maybe they disprove of imagination or something (all hypothetical of course), then you have a smaller chance of lucid dreaming. But if your parents tell you that you can control your dreams at a young age, maybe you can do it better later.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I am glad there is always someone out there that can seemingly know something they cannot prove.

PLEASE don't push beliefs on me. It may just relate to dreaming, but if it is something you cannot prove, it is a belief. It is no different than me saying ooga booga is your god or something else stupid like that. Now you could reword what you said and state that you believe it is not inherited. By saying, "one doesn't inherit lucid dreaming ability", you are stating that it is true and if anyone says otherwise they are wrong. I could say that and it would have no more level of truth than what you said.

I personally like the ambiguity of the English language as much as the precision of the Russian language. Personally I didn't find wasup's thread very pushy, but that may just be me. What he said is basically a general concensus (sp?) of users, though not everyone, of course.

Anyway, I've talked with my parents about dreams before. We're a relatively conservative family, but they did encourage myself and my siblings to build our imagination, as many teachers commonly don't. It just depends on what kind of people they are, whether they will believe you or not.

I've told my parents and pretty much everyone i know about lucid dreaming. Most people seem intrigued at first and then soon forget about it. I have a long-distance friend who became pretty interested in it after i told him. As for other weird things? Well my Mother and Sister know that i'm a fur-fan (and now everyone who reads this post knows it). :D

I never talk to my parents about weird stuff. You guys know more about me than my parents do. In fact, I talk here alot more than I do to them. Many reasons, including I don't get shooed away after five minutes, and none of you have this predjuce against anything remotely weird. I hate it when the conversation at home turns to homosexuality as they don't like it. At all. Whereas I'd like to show tolerance, but doing that in front of them would probably get me whacked or something worse. So I need to keep hold of them for the free internet connection for now. :P

I talk to all my family and friends about dreams and lucid dreaming. I always ask about their dreams after I ask how they are. Most of the time they like it because when else will someone ask you about your dreams? I know my grandmother is a lucid dreamer. She has really bad recall, but all the dreams she remembers, she knows she was dreaming in them. I'm a natural lucid dreamer too, and I just found out my little cousin is too. I think lucid dreaming may be genetic only because of the pattern I've observed in my family. It could just be a coincidence.

Back to the question: Since when are LD’s classified as “weird stuff”? A decent portion of the population has them, so I don’t see why they should be relegated to the weird/occult category. And to answer the question, no not really. Truly weird stuff like telepathy and telekinesis have come up in conversations before, but it’s certainly not a staple topic.
