Where does everyone think the most beautiful places in the world are? I haven't traveled around the world yet, so I do not know.

I'm talking about scenery and such... disregarding human prescense

And why are the places beautiful?

the countryside is gorgeous. holland is soo beautiful, the freeways are gorgeous too lol (everywhere is super green with cows). CT is so lucky! and parts of japan are pretty too, of course only the countryside. i haven't traveled that much, but i would like to travel more because it's tough to find enchanting places here in the US.

Outside my window, I have a forest, a river, a tine beach, green fields and sometimes cows and sheep. I'll take a picture in the morning. It's way too dark now.

I haven't travelled outside of Australia, so I guess I'm not too experienced, but from where I've been in Australia, the Grampians Ranges in Victoria are breathtaking... We always used to go there as a family holiday, it's pristine... The main town in there blends into the scrub and the bushland, so even when you're in the middle of the town you feel like you're in the thick of the wilderness... bloody awesome.

Somewhere I want to go is the Himalayas or some other mountain range... I also want to travel through the Australian outback a bit too.

Oooo another beautiful place in Australia is the Nullabor plain... lol. Anyone who's been there will get the joke.

I wish that this could do it justice, but it can't.

First you have the field, then the forest, behind that the river. You can't see the bay from that angle and my camera can't zoom enough. Sadly no sheep right now.

The Bitterroot Valley and areas around it in Montana. I've been to a lot of the places around North America and this is one of them that has stayed with me wherever I travel. Everywhere I go I can't help but compare it to here, so I'm always drawn back. I'll look for some photos and post them as well if I can. You can take a picture of just about anything and it would make a perfect post-card.

Yay pictures of England. Here's my back garden, or land, as you probably want to call it. By the way, those that saw my tour-of-my-house thread with the little yellow fluffy chicks - at the bottom of the picture there they are again months on, and they're all nice and plump now. And they don't get eaten by foxes as easily.

LOS ANGELES!

if you start from down town (and discount the time you spend in traffic ;p) you can drive in any direction, and in less than 2hrs you'll be at a) the beach b) forest c)mountains d)desert. -the desert being the farthest.

every time i leave LA i get home sick, and have to come back. sure other places may have a nicer forest, (but our mountain lions, are the friendliest by far.) beaches, etc. but you will probably never find a city that this kind of variety w/a short driving distance.

actually, san diego is pretty much the same way. i kinda like driving on the 8. the only problem it's that i hate that place.

mexico is beautiful. i think i've hit almost every single resort destination on the pacific side. argentina is beautiful too, but everything is far away. you have to fly, or drive for days before you get anywhere. one time we drove from cordoba to iguazu... almost 3days on the road. at least the roads over there are better shape than the crap we drive on here in US. italy is nice, hawaii is nice too. if hawaii wans't so boring, i'd probably like to live/retire there. i think puerto vallarta will suit me more. just g'd up yelapa (preferably w/running water) on the beach w/a jungle for back yard.

Almost anywhere along the Oregon coast is beautiful. Also, Montana is a nice place to see some good scenery. However, for some reason I fell in love with the Gorge at George, Washington, which is usually held for concerts/festivals. It's just so beautiful!

The most beautiful places are the ones I think up in my head. :P

In most places you can find beauty, excepting American cities and suburbs(terribly ugly). If you're by high rises or an older area it isn't as bad though. Around here winters and autumns(after the leaves have all turned) can get rather ugly, especially on overcast days(which generally make everything uglier). Anything can be beautiful, but looking at one scene too long poisons the effect(believe me, I live about 90 ft above a lake with a nice view).

I really love Boracay Island in the Philippines...beautiful white sand (which doesn't scorch your feet) and crystal clear water (very similar to Nightowls's Samoa pic). Just don't feed the monkeys! :shakehead2:

They also have a place there called "MANOC-MANOC BEACH"...(which translates to Chicken-Chicken Beach)

I love goin up the local mountains and look down at the city, preferably at late night, where I can see beautiful and luscious lights as well at the enchanting star-lit sky. The perfect place for a date, seriously!!! I love goin up there to reflect, think, pray, listen to music, hang out, I love it.

I love Lake Mancos Ranch in Durango, Colorado:

http://www.lakemancosranch.com/images/horseoverlook.jpg http://www.lakemancosranch.com/images/golconda.jpg http://www.lakemancosranch.com/images/mtnpasture.jpg

I used to go there in the summer with my family. You stay in little red cabins with fucked up names like "Deer Lick". And every morning they cook sausage and bacon and eggs any way on this huge outdoor grill. And lunch and dinner are served in this big log cabin that was converted into a lodge. And the left over desserts are available anytime for free in the lodge. And you can fish, go panning for gold. And you can do all day or 1/2 day horse rides. You wake up at like 5am, and then ride through the mountains, along streams, with morning dew sparkling on all the tiny wild flowers......fuck I wanna go back.

Wasup,
I have travelled the world professionally and recreationally. Travel is THE ultimate persuit and a whole other thread. That being said; we often travel thousands of miles in one direction while another traveller travels in the exact opposite direction, landing in the same spot from which we have just departed from. My point is that you don't really have to travel very far to find the beauty of this world as is confirmed by previous posters. One of my favourite places was Pagan Burma. How do I post a picture?

voidofform
03-07-2005, 08:12 PM
i've been forced to travel a few times, san fransisco, DC, charlottesville, brisbane, melbourne, and thailand. its certainly true that travel broadens your horizons (esp thailand!), its also true that i was desperately homesick the whole time. not for any particular thing, my home and surroundings isn't anything special, but each time coming home was just magical.

you can keep your travel.
