      Forcing myself to wake up?

Hello everyone I am new to this forum, I have had this "occurrence" for a while and didn't know if I should ask someone about it. I find that it may be normal or like it's no big thing. For certain I really do not want to make a big deal out of something small. What I am talking about is the ability to force myself to wake up when I sleep. It usually happens during a smallish intense dream like being chased or about to be attacked. I know that this happens to almost everyone during a nightmare where once they make contact to the ground from a falling dream or get caught by a monster they instantly wake up, but this feels a bit different. Not only does this also happen in normal dreams, but it is as if right at the end of the dream I realize that I am dreaming. During a lot of these occurrences I basically think to myself "Whelp I'm done dreaming", and then I close my eyes and wake up confused at how I was able to do it. I had a dream that I went into another universe, because I like to look up multiverse theories, throughout the dream I was aware that I was in a different universe and towards the end I was getting chased and before I could get caught I closed my eyes and I could see my body glow in like a bright blue color and I told myself to wake up and so I did. I don't just wake up from a scary intense shock I literally tell myself that it's time to wake up in every one of these occurrences. I was wondering if this has to do with Lucid Dreaming because I know that I am dreaming before I tell myself, but by that time I want to wake up and so I do. This hasn't happened all my life and only really started recently but 9/10 of my dreams has the same ending. I either tell myself "Alright, let's wake up" and I wake up aware that I just told myself to do so, or it's a scary situation like being surrounded by zombies and I know the only way to escape is for me to wake up so I say "Just wake up" and I do so as well. If this is just a normal occurrence and has no meaning what so ever please tell me, I hate when something abnormal happens to me and I get confused on if I should worry about it or not.

Hey buddy, it's not an abnormal occurrence at all (although I'm not sure how may people experience this, it certainly happened to me all the time). It does have to do with lucidity. You are literally becoming lucid at the end of your dreams, but, instead of changing the outcome of the dream, you are deciding to wake up.

It used to happen to me all the time in nightmares, before discovering that I could change the outcome (via lucid dreaming). I used to be so scared in the middle of certain nightmares that I "shook myself awake" in a sort of jerky motion. Anyway, nothing to be worried about! If anything, you should celebrate, as you seem to be closer to actually lucid dreaming than most people.

Hey like PRtitohp5 says. its nothing NOT normal.
At the end of our sleeping cycle when we are close to waking our awareness rises and then chances are higher to notice that we are in a dream. therefore most lucid dreaming beginners have very short lucids because they just notice it right before waking.
this said you can decide to not wake up but do something cool you could fly away or talk to one of the zombies and ask them why the heck they follow you decide right before going to bed what you want to do next time you realize you are in a dream and set a goal and instead of wake you up enjoy some minutes more and dont be shy, you can do literally everything but start small

I already experienced that. Its so scary. But after that incident, I always drink water pray before going to bed. I dont sleep alone so someone could hear me when I'm struggling.

Yep, that's essentially you becoming lucid and realizing that you don't have to continue the nightmare. I've been there before, too. Now, the next time it happens, consider refraining from waking yourself up and instead start controlling your dream!

Of course there is the small possibility that you'll lose lucidity and plunge back into the nightmare. Which is a bit scary. But with practice it will happen less and less.
