The ex-girlfriend represents a feeling you have – one that can pertain to the ex herself. The lyrics of a love song represent the idea of words put to music. As music refers to creating a loving atmosphere, the lyrics to a love song represents the idea of loving thoughts which are expressed in the pattern of the relationship, i.e. through those acts and deeds which say, “I love you”. By giving you the lyrics to read, it implies that when using an emotional perspective pertaining to the ex-girlfriend, you could expect yourself to “read and understand” this idea of love being expressed through acts and deeds which say, “I love you”.

Yet by presenting yourself with this idea of love being expressed through acts and deeds on a piece of paper, you are giving yourself this idea as if it were only a theoretical idea. It is just “on paper”. Also because the piece of paper is a small one, it could suggest that when you emotionally “hand yourself” this idea, i.e. let yourself take the idea into your own hands and do with it as you see fit or deal with it, you might be inclined to toss it out. (because we tend to throw away small pieces of paper) But, the small piece of paper – as opposed to it being a very large one – also indicates that the idea of love being expressed through acts and deeds which say, “I love you” is a good and godly idea.
