Question What does my dream mean? Surrogacy and pregnancy...

A bit of background...white female, 20 years old. grew up in northern midwest USA. No kids, no pregnancies, no serious boyfriends or marriages.... About a week ago I had a dream of becoming a surrogate mother for friends of mine even though she is currently pregnant. We went to the same doctor and the husband was there for us both throughout the pregnancies....Then last night I had a dream I became pregnant and decided I wanted to give my baby to a couple whom I know fairly well..in my dream could not have kids (they do in real life) and were elated that I was giving them such a great gift and they took very good care of me. Both dreams I was only pregnant, no delivery or anything. Each time I woke up feeling sad... Does this all mean something like I want a baby? or just a coincidence? I'm happy to answer any questions needed to interpret. Thanks in advance!

      • doctor-To dream that you are seeing the doctor indicates your need for emotional and spiritual healing.
      • pregnant-To dream that you are pregnant symbolizes an aspect of yourself or some aspect of your personal life that is growing and developing. You may not be ready to talk about it or act on it. Being pregnant in your dream may also represent the birth of a new idea, direction, project or goal.

What's new in your life? This could be what the dreams are referring to.

Nothing new in my life so even more confusing. Just carrying on same old thing.

You do not have any boyfriend or husband, and yet in your dreams you are pregnant on behalf of women who are married, as a precious gift, and you wake up sad. I wonder whether it is not the pregnancy you crave but the relationship, you want to have or provide what they can have and you don't. You want to be there for someone else, to provide them your life and more than just your life. It is not about a selfish desire to have soemone for yourself, but I think you want to be there for someone else. And you are sad because that is not real. You feel barren without a love growing inside you, perhaps? I may of course be completely wrong - if this does not sound right, please disregard.
You may say I'm a dreamer.

Both dreams involve you giving. Maybe you're giving birth to the idea that you need to be more giving or caring in a relationship or situation.

Thats a good thought, who knows. I just thought it was weird having almost the same sort of dream consecutively.

Your friend is going through a lot of things currently with the pregnancy that you may want to try and empathise with and obviously one way to do that without going through a pregnancy in real life may be for you to become pregnant in a dream. Having no serious boyfriends or marriages might have had an influence as to why you were a surrogate. As for the part with the husband being there for you, that may be something you desire. Not in the sense that you desire her husband but maybe you're feeling a little lonely at times and desire companionship and this couple represent the idea of family and love to you, do you have many close relationships with your family?

As for the second dream, you give away your child to your infertile friends suggesting to me that it may not be that you want a child because both dreams have a form of surrogacy where you have no intention to be the mother of the child. Perhaps you place a large value on family (which is why they thought it was an incredible gift and took good care of you). You felt sad after both dreams because you may desire these kind of ties/relationships with people and you feel like your infertile friends may never get to experience that either.

But as for whether or not you actually want a baby, I think that's something that you should think about for a little longer because these are only a couple of dreams, who knows what they really represent.

It's pretty late and this was all I could come up with, I hope this was helpful for you

An additional approach to your dream might be that for some reason, you hesitate to take enough responsibility for your own overall self-development, maybe because you have an unconscious opinion or thought along the lines of “It’s not important to care for myself, only for others” etc.

It looks like this idea appears in the two dreams, e.g. in one, you want to be a surrogate mother and in the other, you want to give your baby away to another couple.

So it’s possible you woke up feeling sad because your own talents and abilities are somehow being “given away” with no lasting benefit for yourself.

You could try thinking back to around the time of the dream to see if anything springs to mind about something which happened that might tie in somehow with this idea where too often, you may be “sacrificing” something important about yourself to others.

Anyway, without knowing very much about you, this approach to your dream might not fit your personal circumstances very well, but I hope that these ideas can be helpful in some way.
