The Danger of Checkered Floors

I have a recurring dream that has been puzzling me for a while. I find myself in a dim, cavernous room with checkered floors and marble walls and pillars. The room is deceptive, so it may look as if one wall is very close, but when I run toward it I discover that it is in fact miles away. There are no exits to this room, no doors windows, anything. There aren't any lights, either, but I can still see fine. For some reason, I feel like if I can scream loud enough, someone will help me out of the room. And, as I'm sure you've experienced, when I try to scream, nothing comes out. Just a little gurgle.

The dream haunts me, even in my waking hours, but I have no idea what it means. I don't feel trapped in my life, I have virtually no hardships to deal with. Any thoughts?

i cant scream in my dreams either... helps me know i am dreaming

Another similar and common occurence is when you try to run in a dream and it's like you're in slow motion. I always hate that feeling.

Actually it's useful, I had it happen twice to me (from what I can rember, that is...

), and each time it triggered a LD - short, but it was always a LD...
Besides, that feeling is freaky... for me, it's like me trying to run, yet some immense force slowing me down as if I was pushing something incredibly heavy...

This dream could represent the feeling of anxiousness. Possibly there is something happening in the future that you just cannot wait for? Or perhaps you are an impatient person?

Where are the checkers in this dream...? Is there any associated feelings with the dream and the day before you had the dream? Do you believe there is any catalyst to it at all?

You typically will run in "slow motion" in dreams because the endocrine system is essentially "turned off" during sleep and thus, you will not be able to feel that adrenal rush during running. Also, the dreaming world is focused too much on every event that occurs, not speeding to one another because if it wanted to just get from one dream-thought to the other, you would just simply phase into it. Usually running is to get to one place to another quickly..

You can run in dreams such as ones when you are being chased by something. This is because of that paranoid/helpless feeling the running creates - "No matter what I do, it still chases me" etc.

hey o'nus i heard from someone that if your in a LD, and pull out a gun and shoot yourself in the dream, you would have a OBE? is that true? (sorry off topic)

Not exactly.. although some people may use such signs to enter the OBE state or "astral" state. Utilising a means of death to enter the "afterlife" in a dream or.. something along those lines.

I can't say I truly believe in the concept of OBE's or astral planes either, or that they are at least apt to debate.
