As far as the dream signs you mentioned, they can be used effectively, but as Gab says, they do not come up in life. You will have to do some form of autosuggestion. I use similar dream signs, but Gab is correct that normally dream signs should appear occasionally in real life. A good example is a stop sign; every time you see a stop sign, you can try to actually make out all 4 letters in the sign carefully. Then if you see a stop sign and it gets blurry or has digital letters when you try to clearly see all 4 letters, you can become lucid.
For the odd dream signs, like in my case, school work, you need another method. I spent 20 years in school and my brain will often have dreams about papers being due or a teacher marking me down for improper this or that. It is always a dream, but never happens in real life. What you need to do is spend a few days once in awhile where you repeat to yourself (mantra) many times that this means you are dreaming. For me it would be, "you know you no longer go to school, so homework will always mean you am dreaming." repeat the thought in your head so often that your brain considers this important.
