Stay in the same position, don't move. They say, that we recall a dream better, if we are in the same position as we were when the dream occured.
Don't open your eyes, and don't start thinking about what you do next. Calm your mind and think back. What were you dreaming about? If you start falling back asleep, that's the best time to recall.
I frequently get random bombardement of dreams from last night, and even weeks or years before, the moment my head hits the pillow at night when I'm tired enough.
It's also possible, that we remember a previous dream for 10 min (I have read this someplace, not sure if true), and then we lose it. Which certainly could be true in some cases, but doesn't explain all the other times when we recall a dream later during day, or hours or days later.
But I'm trying to say, that you may have not woken up directly from a dream or immediatelly after it was over. Best thing to do is stay calm and think back. it will come to you, and your mind will get more used to recalling them for you, if it sees that it makes you happy. So an occasional "thank you for my dreams" to your mind would be nice
