      sleep band trackers

I find interesting to do a study about own sleep, I think information can be use to sleep better, also more control in dreams
but I don`t know how reliable it is, due to many sleep band trackers only can tell deep sleep from light sleep
      (Jawbone-UP3.jpgrem.jpg)
however this model can make a note of rem phases, too.
There are anybody with experience in these devices?

I use the S+ sleep tracker by ResMed, and it's been working well for me.

I like it especially because it doesn't contact your body (it uses something like sonar), so it's more comfortable to use in different sleeping positions. (though sleep bands on the wrist would probably not be that bad either)

You can see these two threads for screenshots of results from it:

I already own a Garmin Fenix 3 wich I use to track my triathlon activities.
Because for sleep it only tracks "awake", "light sleep" and "deep sleep" I switch it to my right hand when going to bed.
This way it realises my wakings pretty clearly because of the movement of writting down in my DJ and I see where my dreams (and REM) are ending.

If this REM reading is accurate it may be worth another investment, though!?

I'm looking for something that can work w/ my husband in my bed. Most things I've tried on apps don't ever work because there is another person in the bed so when they get up to go to work it thinks you got up. Or if you get up to use the bathroom it now thinks you are awake. So far what I see here are things you wear which I have not tried. Hence back to my original question of what will work w/ another person in the bed w/ you?

The Garmin tracks movement on the wrist, so another person does not cause wrong messurements as long as they don't throw themselfes around like crazy in a waterbed.
When I go to the bathroom it will mark that time as awake and continues tracking my sleep afterwards as long as I'm not awake for (I think) over an hour. If its wrong I can adjust sleeping hours manually as it tracks movement 24/7.

@Venrxy I just got an S+ for like $65 havn't had a chance to use it yet, hope the thing is accurate
(for that matter I hope its compatible with phone )

I plan to try to use it with some sort of slaved vibrating bands

where the detector (S+) detects dream and then master device (phone) calls to ankle band(s) or what ever and sends vibration into sleep
maybe have some other devices (like phone itself) play sounds, and also even some sort of device to release scent (associate all these things with being in a dream)

I hope the thing is useful for something but even just graphs could be fun
Sure LUCID DREAMS are all fun and games until someone loses a third eye.

I hope so too! It's worked pretty well for me, but will be nice to have some independent evaluation.

Let me know if you have any trouble setting up the app to connect with it, or notice features that would be good to add. (there's already things on my todo list, so I might not get to it right away, but still good to know what would be useful to other users)

The scent idea is interesting! However, I'm not sure they sell bluetooth-controlled scent dispersers. : P But who knows, maybe there's some crazy kickstarter project for something like that.

Oh also, note that it may take some experimentation to get your S+ device situated properly. I tried about 4 positions till I find what worked the best. (for me, that's directly to the side, at bed-level vertically, and my stomach area horizontally)

My problems were I didn't want to use my password, grant a billion privilages to the app etc

but it is now set up and waitin for me to hit the sleep button for the first time (and for that matter use an App for the first time)

WTF doesn't any one support actual computers any more (looks at many thousand dollars worth of computers, and then to a few portible pieces of S)

I really don't understand it, if the Melinials want to take over the world they at least need to wait for we others to die first

You'll see how it is when your children try to take over making you install everything on their Old McDonalds Had A Fram crib toy, and use the required woobbie controller

      Here is first Hypnogram

Looks like Missed 1st REM awakening completely as usual (suprise how nice the REM period seemed to be tho)
Second REM a dead on Hit for awakening after dream
Third REM quite aways away from awakening [Looks like I should definitely target this when I get output device (band etc)]
Fourth REM my awakening is a bit off and the REM looking pretty thin
Fifth REM (wiped out) was on its way but some how I switched my alarm mode from All to Weekend and got hit by 5:00 AM hard alarm woops

Total Lucids Zero I tried to nap back to sleep and did notice halucination, seems device detected as light sleep, Maybe latter I'll try some nap tracking ususally I attempt like 3+hrs

      Mar10Hypno.JPG

Recall fair to good for 2, 3, and 4 (didn't journal tho)
I have no memory of 1

Edit: I suppose I should include that I took 200mg 5HTP (7 pm) and that may account for the First Rem being so good, because of possible REM shifting
I'll try to do the same tonight but then compare to other nights without it. In general you would expect it to shift Deep Sleep to the LEFT most portion of the Hypno, thus increasing REM duration following this

Scent controllers exist (casinos are the primary reason, they invested many millions in the technology
but I'm about as likely to choose 'Risk' or 'Greed' scents for LD as I am to choose 'Moondance' or 'Zephyr'
in other words not likely at all , my scent will be called like 'Swanepoel')

Not that this would be a compatible device it would likely have to be hacked big time but it is Blue Tooth
      and looks pretty nice

Did a sort of nap testing I slept for a while then checked then slept again checked again and finaly a third time

      Mar11NapHypno.JPG
      top is third
      middle is second
      bottom is first

In the Third I had at least 1 more REM and probably two, one was marked with noise at about 17:00 which I think was me marking I had just woken from a dream
In the second I had at least one more REM than detected just before the second awakening at around 5:00, and towards the last properly marked segment I was nearly lucid and performed at least 5 jump tests
I recalled several dreams from the first but no rem detected

Maybe tonight I'll try just yelling a bit after each awakening, in the one marked but with no REM just before it I awoke from a dream and just waved my arm in the air

@Venryx I didn't think I had any trouble with positioning, but in these naps I was particularly careless maybe that is why REM went missing
in any case I hope it detects it in real time, I havn't looked at your app or code stuff really, and don't have any output device (unless I wanted my phone to yell at me)
eventually I will want some type of vibrating leg band, maybe a strobe light, and certainly Sound Playing, and if possible scent too

53min Sleep, Body Charge 43% (first)
2hrs28min Sleep, Mind Charge 48%, Body Charge 81% (second)
1hr25min Sleep, Mind Charge 33%, Body Charge 64% (third)

also In this video from Consumer Electronics Show 2017
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQG_XyXncEA
there was a casio reference at 4:00 min in, where the guys says that AERA has been in the business 15 years
I have heard of a scent called "HUNGER" for casino buffetts, would be a bitchen LD scent trigger
your a few min into a REM and bam hit with HUNGER, and its off to the Zero Cal Free buffett

I think all the Casino Scents are propiretary

      Second Nights Sleep
I swear that I had 7 awakenings and remembered dreams from all of them I think I never preceived that I was asleep between the 6th/7th awakenings on the Graph
I was using a bed side clock that was not adjusted for PDT/PST change
I did become lucid at my 2:30 / charts 3:30 tho, I was lucid somewhere in the middle, then false awakened, then reality checked eventurally but failed he he

      Mar11Hypno.JPG

Am I having nonREM dreams that I think are REM I doubt it, I'll need to get a voice recorder or something and actually journal what I dreamed it will lead to longer awakenings
but as far as I can tell it doesn't detect all REM, and it assigns as sleep what I might assign as waking hallucinations like between its 6th/7th(chart) awakening light sleep

So it's not reliable?! Worth the investment tough or like badly off?

well I think I have at least three Rem dream for every two that it shows, but it is still good

of course it is possible that I am having NRem dreams, but if so then they are pretty much like Rem as far as I can tell, so I doubt this is the case
I think that actually I have only ever recalled one total NRem dreams, and it was weird and fast

it is good for showing me REM periods that I failed to wake from
and once I am able to get an output device to trigger off of the REM it does detect, I can use it to try and trigger from the signal

I don't think I would be very good at the Force brief awkaening technique because I have rarely succedded in DEILD

but if I am unable to get or figure out a way to hook in an output device to try to trigger in DILD, then I will go with the breif alarm,
and if I had any success at all then it would be worth it

@Rebon for instance I am sure I had a REM it missed last night

      Mar20Hypno.JPG

I do not recall the 11:00 awakening
I had acid reflux during the 12:30 awakening/absence, I do remember dreaming but was not focused on that
I don't recall the 2:00 or 3:00 awakening but we will focus on the 2:30 awakening
I do recall the last awakening and remember a dream there too

so I don't recall the first REM or awakening oh well

What about the 2:30 tho, I clearly remember a dream. In it, I was at a construction site with a narrator, I experienced many textures under my feet, I heard a father teaching his son, I went to a vending machine and paid for a soda coin by coin via a twist the coin into a tube payment system (my nickles got lost and by my quarters worked, I ended up trying to use dimes, but in the end paid the correct amount and it slowly dispensed my drink in a weird bottle), I clearly remember looking at each bottle in the machine and finding only one cherry 7up that didn't also have plum added, I clearly recalled the taste, nice and refreshing, The construction had nearly finished (would have taken months for such work to really occur), I sat on a bench with a woman and looked into the nice river valley that had been built in this all new heavy city area of new buildings. At this point the dream got a bit weird as I looked across and saw a woman and then the dream became about a man and woman squriming like snakes thru the soil from many impossible angles, with him fleeing her pursuing.

      So where is the REM?

explanation one, I was really just remembering the dream from 12:30 (I don't think so)
explanation two, there was interferance (I do recall a pillow covering part of my face)
explanation three, It was really NRem, I might be willing to buy the last portion of the snake chase lovers, but not the narative, textures, flavor, and visuals of at least 5 minutes of recalled dream

explanation four it just wasn't recorded (without enough interferance to justify this happening)

btw: the first green part was not sleep in my opinion but just me laying there as I recall it taking me an hour to fall asleep (I was sleeping on a different mattress for the first time)
