      Horror books / movies

Well, I can't seem to find any good horror movie, let alone a book, so I hope you guys have some advice . I need something terrifyng, something that gives shivers. I remember reading a book when I was a kid that was truly scary, sadly I don't remember the name.
I like destruction and reality, and one invariably leads to the other.

I hated Insidious! How can they even call that horror? I was laughing!

I think the really scary movies were probably done long before CGI, and before the Japanese version of The Grudge and The Blaire Witch Project seemed to set a "this is how you make the movie scary" template for all subsequent horror movies. Classics like The Exorcist, Mr. Frost, or Rosemary's Baby were much scarier, because they had to try harder to scare you; and they did so usually by making you think.

If you want a good horror game try Outlast, it seems really well made and quite scary to boot
Also The Shining is a great classic movie if you haven't seen it already.

Babadook was the last great horror movie i saw. i've been into horror for as long as i can remember so nothing really scares me any more but that movie had some pretty chilling moments. as for books the first one that comes to mind is Song of Kali by Dan Simmons.

Let the right one in by John Ajvide Lindqvist is a great horror book in my opinion. The swedish film adaptation of it is also pretty good.

I highly recommend checking out Stephen King. Great writer. He has definitely written some books that made me want to sleep with the lights on. The Shining, Salem's Lot, The Stand, so many. Undoubtedly my favorite writer.

The two books that really freaked me out were 'Ghost Story' by Peter Straub, and 'Heart-Shaped Box' by Joe Hill. They both just kinda screwed with me psychologically.

There's also this book called 'House of Leaves' by Mark Danielewski. If you like the kind of layout the book has, it's a really creepy trip. It's about a guy who realizes his house is bigger on the inside than the outside. Which sounds boring, but it gets really messed up.

Here is a list of some badass Horror films:

I own everyone of these films on dvd, laserdisc or VHS. I guess you could call me a cinephile

You will see a lot of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing films, because they were Horror film titans (for the younger audience, Christopher Lee plays Saruman the White in Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films and Count Dooku in Star Wars, and Peter Cushing played in the original Star Wars as Moff Tarkin, but those roles suck in comparison of their early films)

      The Thing 1951
      The Thing 1982 (EPIC)
The Wicker Man 1973 (Christopher Lee version, skip Nick Cage version)
The Skull 1965 (Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing)
I, MONSTER 1971 (Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing and one of the best adaptations of DR Jekyll and Hyde films ever)
The Creeping Flesh 1973 (Chris Lee and Peter Cushing)
The Night Stalker 1972 and The Night Strangler 1973 (about a hot shot reporter that investigates supernatural stories, and there was a series after the 2 films called Kolchak the Night Stalker, and they all have the same character, which is pretty amazing)
The Devil Rides Out 1968 (christopher Lee and Donald Pleasance)
      Witchfinder General 1968 (Vincent Price)
Don't Look Now 1973 (Donald Sutherland, Julie Christie)
The Abominable DR Phibes 1971 (vincent price)
As Above So Below 2014 (not amazing, but worth watching)
Island Of Lost Souls 1932 (Bela Lugosi, Charles Laughton) This film wasn't considered a B film when it was made, which was very rare for any horror film to be taken seriously at the time

and I will write some more later, getting sleepy. I'm out
