German Music

Whats some good German-singing-music? Like from Switzerland, Germany, and/or Austria. Or whatever.

And I dont want any folksmusik, or technopop.

What I listen to:

Die Toten Hossen
PVP (and many other swiss rappers)

Want to get Gimma album next time I'm in Switzerland

Here's something from a Google search.
http://www.last.fm/group/Austrian+Rap

Google usually gives some good answers, so I would suggest looking there.

Hey guys, I'm back. Feels good man

Well, now I can add Blumentopf to that list, and probably more, thanks man. Although why "Austrain Rap group" is playing blumentopf confuses me...

Heaven Shall Burn and Neaera are German bands, Heaven shall burn is melodic death metal and Neaera is metalcore. I think Deadlock is german as well. All these bands sing in English for the most part though.

oh wait i just realised none of these fit your criteria since they don't actually sing in german, they are still good bands though so you should still check them out. Finntroll sings in Swedish I think at least, They're a good band too.

Uhh, I guess it depends on your taste in music.

Simply awesome: Deichkind - the album "Aufstand im Schlaraffenland". They are completely out of their minds.

new: http://youtube.com/watch?v=_3cLKC6tfGg
old: http://youtube.com/watch?v=uUbOqPpzo7Q&feature=related

Will recognize some crazy lyrics with these people. Both their old stuff which was purely hip hop and their new which is electronica and hip hop combined in a fuckn crazy way.

Farin Urlaub and Die Ärzte should most definitely be checked out.
I guess 2raumwohnung and Mia might be interesting. All a little softer. Also "Klee", es riecht nach Gras...
Maybe Sometree.
In terms of jazzy hip hop, Nico Suave. (his debut album)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX-yp-T5O1E (his classic)
The Donots...

For rap, definitely take a look at Curse from Minden and The Spezializtz, Harris and Dean Dawson...

Those are some I can definitely be entertained by, even if I'm not that big a rap fan.

Another favorite would be D-Flame for his crazy deep voice and Jamaican style of singing and rapping.

Fünf Sterne Deluxe for something oldschool with hilarious lyrics.

For something more pop-oriented, there are always Juli and Silbermond.

In Austria, you probably won't get around knowing who Christina Stürmer is.

Rest that comes to mind for the moment has English lyrics...

RAMMSTEIN

A note:

I think they are definitely an aqquired taste. They are the only metal band I listen to. They are also the only modern music I listen to, except for movie scores. Weird combination, but they are sort of a forbidden fruit for me. I think (here come the flames) that in my opinion, after hearing German metal you can't go back. German was pretty much tailored to metal from the start.

That being said, I kind of wish I would just stick to classical. But if you like metal, and are looking for German music, look for Rammstein.

Have you tried listening to metal that isn't mainstream, i think you might be surprised. Sure Germany has some great metal bands like the ones i posted but so does Finnland, Norway, Sweden, and America too. If you look hard enough Canada even has one-Kataklysm. I don't have a problem with Rammstein but in both Du Hast and Ich Will all they do is pretty much say the same words over and over again, and if you listen to it because of the instrumentals there are a ton of metal bands that have way better intrumentals than Rammstein. Im just saying you can't turn your back on all other countries music in one particular genre just because you found a band you really like in Germany. Good call on the flaming
