I'm in the middle of finishing a few indie books I have to review because I plan to start doing book reviews this summer. The two I am reading are good but not great. The issue is they are YA, and that is not my preference at all, but I also cannot critique the style since it fits the audience.

I'll probably hit Book 7 of the Dresden Files soon instead. I read Book 5 and Book 6 back to back, and damn. That is one of the few series where I feel the author set such an impossibly high bar, that I don't know how/if he can top it, then he does. Finally, I also have been reading a ton of comics. I read this really cool one called Blackcross that sounded and felt like an X-Files meets Heroes kinda vibe. I want to read it all now.

Also, I don't know how kosher it is, but here is the novel I've worked on for a very long time. I think I did a good job with it, and it's a sci-fi joint if that's your thing: Illusion of Choice.

I enjoyed the film but I haven't got around to the books yet. I have a long list to finish before uni starts so it might take a while before getting to them haha.

I'm currently reading A Dance of Dragons part 1 and trying to plow through it so I can put A Song of Ice and Fire down for a while until the new book comes out.

Skimming through this one for particular information that I might be missing, since I'm also enrolled in an upcoming online course on science writing.
It amazes me how bad people can write (including myself), and since then I've become much more conscious of my own style. Also, food for thought for those interested:

If you haven't already, Zoth, you might want to get your hands on a copy of Strunk & White's The Elements of Style. It's small, but it's also the best.

First off, I am a guy who absolutely hates reading, and has hated it since about 5th grade. I'm always surprised by people that can sit down and read full books in one sitting, but no matter what I've tried I just can't get into it. I usually just get too bored staring at the pages, and often get too frustrated by my lack of progress and interest in the story.

That being said, a friend of mine recommended The Martian by Andy Weir. And it's honestly great. The main character is an engineer (like me), and must use his wits and ingenuity to survive being left behind on Mars after a failed mission. It's a super easy read, and I actually really like the subject matter. Plus, after starting it, I discovered the movie comes out in October, giving me more incentive to finish it (although I'm curious how they'll make a movie of just Matt Damon wandering around Mars for 2+ hours).

Just finished reading "Hold the Dream", sequel to "A Woman of Substace", by Barbara Taylor Bradford. This book was even more emotive and heart-wrenching than the previous. Bradford has a unique style of writing that makes you feel as if you've lived the person's entire life with them. Her books are very long, but pack a huge punch. Ironically, in terms of style I write very similarly to her and Jim Butcher.

I'm almost done with "The Saint of Incipient Insanities" by Elif Shafak, which I started on just yesterday. After that, I'm reading "To Be The Best", sequel to "Hold the Dream".

I have a bunch of books that I haven't read yet. Mine goal is to finish at least half of them before mine next and final college term starts. I can't wait until I graduate. So much of mine money has been going on school supplies and whatnot that I haven't been able to invest in the books I want to buy.

I am absolutely addicted to books. Once I open one, I can't stop. Sometimes I'll read so long, I'll neglect to cook mine daily meals. It's gotten me sick on multiple occasions.

I read the first part, I started the second part today. There are quite many differences between the film and the book. I enjoyed the book much more.

I'm in the middle of two books now. "Dr Faustus" by Thomas Mann, very inspiring book but quite hard to get into because of the author's emphasis on writing everything in long, complex sentences. The other one, a much easier read is "A Song of Ice And Fire: A Game of Thrones". This is going to be a long year waiting for the next season so I finally decided to read all the books.

I'm reading the "Pendragon" series by D.J. MacHale, it is a really good series, I've read it twice now and it is a sci-fi kind of book and it is a really good read, if you can be bothered to read 10 books with lengths of 300-500 pages

I haven't read anything good in a while, I am a huge Stephen King fan but haven't read nearly enough of his work; it has been such a long time that part of me wants to re read something old, (I really love his work under the pen name Richard Bachman before he got famous.) What are some really good but less well known king stories that someone can recommend to me?

First, I'm proud to say that I entered a reading challenge on Goodreads this year. I had decided to read 90 books in 2015. Aaand I'm on my 87th book, so I'm pretty much done!

There have been some good books, some okay books, some meh books and some awful books. Nothing I can do about that... other than add my two cents on Goodreads.

That said, I had begun The 5th Wave last year. Wasn't feeling it, so I dropped it. Decided to give it another try, since it seems to be getting quite popular. I like it better now than I did a year ago, but I haven't finished it yet, so... we shall see.

I'm actually reading a book from a belgian author who is the "creator" of the bizarre genre (litteral translation not sure if correct) : Jean Ray. And the title of the book is "Malpertuis".

Rage was absolutely amazing, that was originally written under his pen name; I have it in a collection that also has "The Long Walk" another one of my favourites.

I have a lot of King's novels, as I tend to binge-read an author; it unfortunatly mean that I tend to forget the novel title... I don't think that I've read the long walk, I will make sur to check it out, once I'm on the other side of Lovecraft.
