      Portal was FRICKIN AWESOME.

Hearing the song at the ending was the most fun I ever had watching the credits for any videogame ever.

I played Gunz, too, but not nearly as much as I did Gunbound....haha, good memories

From one PC gamer to another I would have to reccomend the Galactic Civilization series. It may be a turn based strategy game, but I fell in love with it WHEN I PLAYED THE DEMO. I would also recomend Sins of a Solar Empire, the elder scrolls 3: morrowind, and Black and White 2

The RTSes I've found most fun are all old: Tropico 2: Pirate Cove, Empire: Dawn of the Modern World and, of course, Starcraft. I would say the graphics in these games stand up quite well to newer games with more bling but far less character. I've tried AoE3, Anno 1701 and Supreme Commander, but I found them all kind of boring (actually, Supreme Commander is quite good strategically, I think I just didn't want to take the time to play through it, and the units are kind of blah).

Tropico 2 is really more a sim/city builder, but it's great fun in terms of the personality of the units and the dynamics of having happy pirates and subdued captives ("I don't know if ye've noticed cap'n, but thar ain't enough wenches on your island." ).

Empire is not as much of a stand-out, but it's the best of what strikes me as a weak field, in terms of Civ-ish RTSes with interesting factions with distinct personalities. A lot of games are going too far in either the direction of building up the leaders/heroes with less focus on what's happening on the ground, or just churning out military units and smashing them together. I'm much more a fan of the building up, expanding, taking and defending territory, etc. In terms of your classic strategy games, I'm a big fan of Go/wei-chi but have no patience for chess.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

Same situation. I'm going with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. Has 5 star reviews!
