      This Quran burning fiasco

I know this guy would have some opposition but this is ridiculous. Just goes to show how muslims seem to call the shots now. I for one really think he deserves some slack, I mean he may well be wasting some paper and ink. I almost feel like burning mine in support of him but it would be a waste of a few quid so its pointless really.

How much bible burning condemnation do we see? very little. Why has this massive bandwaggon been created against him? Just a shame christians/atheists are second class citizens compared to muslims now.

there was no need for the media to massivly over publicise it though, if anything that's what will put the troops in danger.

you wouldnt have ever heard of this nut case if the media didnt want you to. there are 6 companies that control the mainstream media (Ownership Chart: The Big Six | Free Press) there is a reason they are getting people so fired up about muslims...probably a preemptive brainwashing before they announce war with iran to "save" Israel. lets just accept the fact that this guy is a CHRISTIAN nutcase. he is mad at MUSLIM nutcases. JEWISH nutcases also hate MUSLIMS. its just a web of "until you accept my beliefs then i want to kill you" type of religious fanaticism....basically you are controlled by your religion and the media and dont even notice it. a lot of people are just fucking sheep that are in the process of being sheared and when that is complete...what is the next step?

The fact that he would burn the Quran, and not burn the Bible, to me, is a sign of ignorance that should be publicized - even if for nothing more than its potential risks.

The Quran, itself, is not evil. It is people's interpretation of it that sheds blood. It is no more different that the Christian Bible being responsible for countless deaths, during this crusade - and crusades of the past. So a man who is potentially putting the lives of many in jeopardy - for no greater reason than to prove a hypocritical point - is, in my opinion, worth making public. It has nothing to do with Christians/Atheists being "second class citizens compared to muslims". It is about trying to diffuse a powder keg of (nationwide) ignorance by exposing it for what it is.

You are very right. But it's already out there and hes going to just go through with it? Knowing what he could cause, and continuing on, is just stupid of him.

P.S. Ya the media really pisses me off on this one.

There is no answer to this because you cannot rationalise religion.

The book burners are free to do as they may due to their irrational views, though it'd be better if they didn't. The Muslims are free to be outraged due to their irrational views, though it'd be better if they didn't.

You can't criticise this if you're not going to criticise dogmatism.

The main focus of my point is the issue of double standards, take this for example

International Burn a Bible Day | Facebook

How come that hasn't ammased international condemnation from various world leaders and taken up many hours of news time? Considering his tiny congregation, the bible burning group will probably have more sucess with their campaign, but when a qu'ran is at risk there is absolute uproar.

Most likely, it's because the percentage of chance that burning a Bible will result in violent opposition is much lower than the percentage of chance that burning a Quran will result in violent opposition. In American culture, we are much more desensitized to the burning of a bible. The culture of Islamic radicalism is much less forgiving. And in a time where Islam (not to mention radical Islam) is still somewhat in the introductory stage to mainstream America, this kind of - potentially catastrophic - "step backward" is worth highlighting.

That would be the most obvious answer, I believe.

The whole mosque Muslim church thing was to get Christians all pissed off at muslims so they will have more support for Israel to bomb Iran. Guess it worked since there are Christians burning Korans now. They did the same thing with 911 to get people mad at Muslim extremests... they are trying to take over the middle east

Book burnings are by their nature just a really really bad thing, on a lot of different levels.

I don't understand why you are so afraid of muslims becoming a part of western society.

Double standards from who? The media? They're just after a story. Who cares about them?

The dude just cancelled the burning, in return for talks with the planners about not building a mosque near ground zero.

      ffs... ugh oh well, whatever.

Hahaha, maybe that was the plan all along. Hopefully events like this will just push people away from religion altogether.

According to msn.com, the pastor is "in confused shambles." Apparently he called it off because he thought the Muslims agreed to build their mosque further down the road, but now it is apparent that it was just a misunderstanding and they fully intend to keep the mosque where it is. So stayed tuned, he is still "praying over the decision to burn."

I heard this on the news as I passed through the living room "Does the Koran preach violence against non-muslims. We've got the answers next."

The irrationality surrounding this whole thing is profound. Is it that they choose not to see the facts or are they incapable?

I think this incident tells you a lot about the mediascape.

This is laughable. Terrible news-making. Why on earth does this guy get this amount of coverage?

I cannot take you seriously because your name is poopman Yeah, true journalism is hard to find. But I think rather than mold their viewer's political beliefs, I think that the media prefers just to reinforce the beliefs their viewers already have. I mean, it is just about money. Finding a niche is easier when your target audience feels comfortable with what you are saying.

How come it is so hard to see Divide and Conquer right before your eyes....yuppie. of course the makers of chemo didnt invent cancer but they did figure out a way to grossly profit from a disease without having to much positive impact.

There is a difference between stating that people take advantage of terrible things like 9/11 and such, which of course happens all the time, and implying that all these terrible things like 9/11 are orchestrated by a few groups that control the entire world.

      Spoiler for Secret:

The problem with many conspiracy theories is that they would be way too much trouble than they would be worth, even if the government did do all these terrible things.

Oh, and are you quite sure you know what yuppie means? Because I can assure you, I am not a yuppie.

Well they have the benefit of the fact that everyone is supposed to tip toe around them whilst they get away with murder (sometimes literally), it's been a problem in europe for decades and now the US is getting its first taste of islamification.

      You are a fucking idiot.
yeah nice there, rather than name calling would you care to actually contribue to the discussion?

Would you care to actually contribute something to humanity?

I don't personally remember any murderers getting away with it because they were Muslims.
