What does it matter? If one generalize, it simply becomes a matter of which particular mental disfunction qualifies one for military service. Now, if sanity were required to enlist, then one is simply dealing with an oxymoron. What one sees is simply a contest between multiple dysfunctions socially expressed.

many people enlist because they do not have enough social skills to maintain their existence any other way.

Some might even formalize the art of war strickly on humanitarian grounds, aiding evolution and nature.

It's a non issue because it really doesn't matter if they are prohibited from revealing. Gays are still allowed to serve in the military, so whats the problem? Also I don't know why anyone would come out while in the military, when all they are doing is opening themselves up to abuse from homophobes and gaining nothing.

Think about it this way...the straight people in the military are free to flaunt their sexuality. They can carry around a Playboy and talk about chicks with the other dudes. Gay people have to hide themselves and keep everything bottled up. That isn't healthy. If the homophobes have an issue with gays in the military, discharge their asses instead.

If you have gays in the military....who will be permitted to shower with the straight men, or with other gay men...then you MUST also allow the straight men to shower with the women. Let's be consistent here. The main thing about gays in the military is the fact that it's pretty damn uncomfortable to be showering and bunking with a dude who wants to do you in the ass, if even in his own thoughts. It's a distraction. When I see co-ed showers...then I'll be ok with the gay thing too. All they have to do is keep it to themselves. Is that so difficult, considering it's against the code to have sex with a fellow soldier anyway?
