My 1st Lucid 2/28/09

None (but I had green tea about 6 hours before bed)

I remember that somehow, my grandmother died. [I can't say exactly how, but I just know.] I began to feel pretty sad; my grandmother was a big part of my life, but then I told myself, "Wait a minute, how can she be dead? I just talked to her on the phone this morning." [Which, indeed, I had.] At this point, I said, "This must be a dream." [I needed no reality checks at this point, I had simply logic'd my way through it.] I thought, "What can I do with this newfound lucidity?" As I though about it, my vision started to go dark and fuzzy, like when you squint through your eyelashes. I thought to myself, "Crap, I'm losing it. Oneironaut stares at his hands to gain stability, so maybe that'll work." I looked down at my hands, and I remember my palms being larger in comparison to my fingers than in real life. But my dream keeps fading and fading.... until I wake up.

Remembering a dream within one: [3/26/09]

Alka-Seltzer Plus (I have a cold)

1st dream

I was in my high school's bandroom with a couple of other people I knew (T and H). We were doing some sort of piano lesson with this fat old guy with a large white beard and mustache. He was trying to get us to play a certain chord in a certain way. I tried it, but no matter what I did, he never seemed satisfied with it. T and H got almost immediately. For some reason, my math teacher (Mr. R) was also in the room at this time, [he should have been a sign, he does nothing with music whatsoever] and he said, "now, the way I do it is wrong, but I want to see how you're doing it." I did what I thought I needed to do, and I was told to practice some more.

[I have never taken piano lessons in my life. I'm a tubist.]

2nd dream

I'm casually walking around my grandpa's pond. It's the start of winter, and the pond has just frozen over. The sky is overcast, and a few scant flurries are flying around. A couple of faceless DCs are talking nearby. [This is a private pond, so they shouldn't have been there.] As I'm walking, I'm preoccupied with something, and I don't remember what. Suddenly, I remember my poor performance at the piano lesson in the previous dream, and I say, "wait, did I actually do that? Mr. R shouldn't have been involved at all. That must have been a dream." After coming to that conclusion, I say, "Holy Crap! Is this a dream?" I do a mental RC. I don't remember how I got here, or what I'm doing, or why I'm here. I decide to test the dreamscape around me. Nearby is a patch of isolated ice. I cautiously step on it to see if ice behaves differently in the dream world. It breaks just like ice does in real life, and water gurgles up through the cracks.

[From this point on, I remember nothing else.]

I've added another color to the code. Things that are orange are things that occur in waking life that may have to do with the current dream.

RC Dead [4/14/09]

I usually wake up from 2-3 AM most nights and try to WILD, but I haven't had success with it. Tonight I decide not to attempt a WILD, and since I can't remember any previous dreams, I go back to sleep.

I'm at my locker trying to decide what books I need to take home with me. All of a sudden, I think that I'm missing my bus. [Even though there no longer is high school busing in my district.] I run out to the lobby, and sure enough, the buses are driving by. I run out the door, somehow warping to a place that resembles what is in front of the old middle school. [Which has now been demolished.] I run to the stoplight that my bus is about to stop at, and I try to wave down the driver. She waves back, and I board the bus from a door located at the rear left for the sake of convenience.[Anybody from the states knows that most buses have the door in the front on the right side.] I walk up the aisle, trying to find my seat from the rear of the bus. I notice a few familiar DCs, most of them my friends. I sit down, and the bus starts moving again. But before it even moves ten feet, another DC stops the bus and gets on from the same door. So I'm thinking, "Wait a minute, this all seems too ridiculous. Am I dreaming?" I conclude that I am mentally. So I try the hand-in-hand reality check. Both hands act very solid. I'm thinking, "Why isn't this working? It's supposed to feel sort of mushy and just slide right through!" All I feel on the spot that I'm trying to push my hand through is sort of like the sensation that you get when one of your arms/legs falls asleep, but only on that one spot. I can't remember anything else from here...

[Damn! I'm going to have to find another RC to do that's harder to fool....]

Try to Fly [4/19/09]

{DILD}

[I can't remember too much of this one. I was rudely awakened by an improperly set alarm clock.]

For one reason or another, I'm out in front of the school's "lobby" outside. There's a teacher, Mr. B, just flipping the fuck out about something. (He's a short, mousy-looking guy in his late thirties that looks like you would just love to see him get angry.) I think to myself, "Teachers usually aren't out here, much less having a fit in front of everybody. I must be dreaming." So I wave my hand in front of him and think "Shut up." Sure enough, it's just like he's been muted. He's shouting silently into the air, and gesticulating wildly. Since nobody seems to be paying any attention to him, he stomps his foot and walks off. I look down at my hands, and it's as if every detail has been outlined by a black marker. I could count the individual creases in my knuckles, the contrast was so high. One of my friends, R, says, "Wow, dude, did you just mute him? That was cool!" I smile and walk back inside.

Something could have happened in between here, but I'm not sure. What's certain is that I wasn't in a different dream.

I'm on the far west side of the school's cafetorium. I suddenly remind myself that I'm lucid. I think, "I should try to do something." I look over on the other side, and there's a balcony on the second floor. I decide to fly to it. I remember that the first time a person tries to fly it should be done with a running start. There's not much space, and there are a bunch of tables between me and my goal. So I try to do it from a jump from the ground. So I jump, hands above me, and quickly find out that it's waaaay easier to jump in the dream world. I have no clue how to turn myself parallel to the ground, and I'm still traveling up. My knuckles hit the bottom of an overhang.

I personally have never had success pushing my finger through my palm. I suggest the "nose pinch" reality check. It has been 100% effective for me. Just pinch your nose, closing off the air passageway, then attempt to breathe through your nose. In a dream you can still breathe through your nose. Of course in real life this is impossible.

First FA 5/17/09

I'm not quite sure, but I think that I had a false awakening last night. I was writing in my DJ about a previous dream (which I think involved Harry Potter. The 4th movie was on tv last night.) I couldn't read my handwriting, which I dismissed as groggy sleep-writing since my DJ is rather messy. But when I woke up, there was nothing written down anywhere.

Hammer (or rather, tooth) space 5/25/09

{WBTB}

Mom flicks on the lights and says "Get Up!" I wake up, but fall back asleep shortly afterward because of my mask.

I'm in the school bathroom and a few of my teeth feel funny. I suspect that it's my wisdom teeth giving me trouble again. [They haven't for over a week.] So I look at myself in the mirror [completely normal-looking] and open my mouth. It's not my wisdom teeth coming in, but at least 2 teeth appear to be rotting from the base. Ew! I wiggle one of them with my tongue and it feels very loose, so I painlessly pull it out. I close my mouth and yes, there's a gap there. But, I don't know what to do with the tooth, so I put it in my back pocket. I feel something sharp. Reaching in, I pull out a bunch of similarly looking rotten teeth and add it to the collection. [I never wonder why I'm carrying around the teeth in my back pocket, when they haven't stabbed me in the ass, but that should DEFINITELY have been a dreamsign!]

Alarm clock awareness [6/5/09]
{DILD} {EILD?}

After a week of dry spell, I've decided to change my sleeping pattern. Rather than waking up around 2:30 for a WBTB, I've adopted a contiguous sleep cycle until 5:30. For the past few days after trying this, my recall has been better than normal.

[If anybody has ever played a few of the older Call of Duty games, this dream felt rather similar to a mission.]

First thing I remember is that I slid off of a roof onto the ground along with one of my friends, M. It is softly raining, approaching dusk. I'm running downhill and come across a few enemies hiding behind rows of logs with a path leading past them along the left side. Rather than ducking behind cover and trying to pick each one off, I run down the path, guns akimbo with what I think is a M16. [Major anachronism; the M16 wasn't developed until after the war.] Strafing past them, firing wildly, most take cover or get shot. None of then try attacking us even after passing by.

Further downhill, we come across a few machine gunner's nests. I found that trying to hit anything with the M16 is hopeless, so I take out my alternate weapon. Its a BB gun, the open sights strikingly similar to the BB gun I have IRL. Even though I pick off each of the gunners with a headshot, [the BB should have bounced off of their helmets] I tell myself, "Man, I wish I had a K98 or something. A BB gun is fucking ridiculous."

With the gunners dispatched, we move to their position. Suddenly, artillery shells start falling around us, and the buildings around me start catching fire. Once the bombing stops, a few children run out to M and I. We send them off, and start advancing further.

As we're moving along a dry riverbed, I run out underneath a stone bridge. Suddenly, I hear the beeep beeeeep beeeeeeep BEEEEEEP of my alarm clock. I distictly remember saying, "Well, so much for that dream." Cue a woooshing sound, and I wake up staring at the inside of my sleep mask.


[I'm not sure, but I think that I must have had a very low level of lucidity throughout this dream, but nothing glaringly stood out and forced me to consciously acknowledge it until I started to hear my alarm clock.]

Clocks gone Crazy [6/10/09]

I tried a new lucid soundtrack I found. I listened to it as I fell asleep around 23:00, but 4 minutes through, I took my earphones out and set them aside.

I slept without remembering any dreams until 5:30, to the sound of birdsong and a distant barking dog. Thanks to my mask, however, I fell back asleep.


I'm in my house, and there's a sick-looking maple seedling in a styrofoam cup on the kitchen table. Looking in the cup, the soil looks rather dry and hard. So, I take it outside near the sheep barn and give it some water through a hose. It's late afternoon, and I can still hear the birds singing an the dog barking the in the background. [Were that anything artificial, this might have turned into an EILD, but since birds singing and barking dogs are normal outdoor sounds, I let it slide.]

As I'm filling the cup, Dad is washing the tractor and bean drill nearby and has the radio on. There's some girl on the radio reading a speech about how "we should conserve our resources and replace the topsoil with clay..." I turn to Dad and yell, "Ya hear that bullshit? That girl doen' know nothin'!" "Yeah, I hear ya," comes his reply, and he shuts the radio off.

In the meantime, the seedling has sprung up, and it looks green, healthy, and much bigger than before. I decide to plant it out in the pasture. [I've got a field north of us that I'm working on reforesting.]

I'm walking back to the house, and this is where things start turning bizarre. I check my watch, and it says that it's 11:00 PM, but it's still late afternoon. Not doubting my watch, I'm thinking that there must be some weird astronomical events going on. I pass by Mom in a wheelchair. I know Mom has trouble walking now and then, but this is rather unusual.

I get inside the house through the back door, turn the TV on, and wake the computer up. The wall clock (an analog) says that it is 7:30. But for some reason, David Letterman is playing on TV, and it's still late afternoon. The computer clock on my toolbar says that it's 10:38. I log into GameFAQs and their timer says that it's 2:00 AM. I say, "What the hell is going on here?" [So close to lucid right here.]

Mom walks in from the kitchen, under no aid whatsoever. I ask her why all the clocks are screwed up. She says, "Oh, they just appear to be dieing all at random times today. This one (she points to the wall clock that says 7:30) died only recently. I reply with "yeah, but all of the other clocks just seem to be changing to whatever time they please." "Well," she says, "maybe we should just wait a while and see if things get worse."

Ugh. I decide to try to sleep until tomorrow, when I hope that things will be better. The kitchen clock and microwave say 4:20 and 1:00, respectively. I lay down on my bed, dirty work boots still on, and try to fall asleep.

Rather than changing scenery, however, I wake my real self up, still to the sound of birdsong and dogs barking.

[Oh man. If I had been practicing text and clock RCs, this would so have turned lucid right when I looked at my watch the first time. Looks like I'll need to start RCing around clocks now.]

WILD attempt [6/19/09]

I lay down in bed at 23:00, and listen to a certain Lucid Remix for about 20 minutes [I'll find a link later as to where I found it.] It takes me a while to fall asleep, with a lot of tossing, turning, and sweating. [It was warm that night.]

I had a minor dream, but all I have written down is, "The Beatles, building a bridge, and a levitating garden plant."


At 3:15 [which was exactly when I planned to set my alarm clock for, but didn't] I decided that I might try a WILD. I laid back and stated doing my 61+ point relaxation technique. I just started on my shoulder when my bedroom door kept thudding against the jamb as the wind shifted. I got up and shut my window. I restarted, but with my right leg kinda bent and my body halfway rolling to that side. I'd later regret not straightening out.

All is going well until I switch over to my right side. My right arm takes a little longer to relax, but gets to the same stage as the rest of my body and I move on. I get to my right leg, which is still sorta bent, and it doesn't really wanna fall asleep. My ankle goes, and so does my hip, but nothing else. I'm too worried that straightening my leg out would undo a lot of the work that I've done, so I just leave it and start to wait.

Turning my head clear to one side just about killed the swallowing reflex entirely. I only had to swallow once from here on out. On about the 25th breath, things start changing. Everything except my right leg and from the neck up goes into near total SP. My body begins to feel like lead, and it is very warm, but not itchy, rather, things not totally relaxed begin involuntarily twitching.

I get the sensation of a daddy longlegs spider [which I'm not worried about at all: I grew up with them and they don't bother me] running up my left arm, across my armpit, and then stopping. My pulse starts to double in speed.

Spoiler for TMI:

My, erm, 'member' stands tall and goes back down in quick succession.

I get that sensation about twice, all of it happening with my right leg, neck, and head not involved at all. At this point, I'm trying to focus on a tactile sensation entirely unrelated to the situation in hopes that I'll transition into a WILD. I go for a rather unique texture: the backs of the chairs and the tables in my school's cafetorium. [Those of you who've read a few of my past entries may know that the cafetorium is a frequent location in my dreams.]

Then, things just sort of... peter out. My heart rate lessens, my numb sensation leaves, (but everything is still heavy,) and everything just sort of dies down. I'm going "what the fuck?" and I start reality checking to make sure that I'm not in a FA. Nose plug checks out, and my clock reads 5:05 twice. I decide to abort the mission and try to roll over and get some normal sleep. It's more difficult to roll over than ever before in any of my previous attempts, and I fall back asleep right as the first bird starts chirping at dawn.

I get another dream, but I forget to write it down.
Also, I'm being serious when I say "don't fall asleep on your arm." This morning I woke up and couldn't feel or move my ring and pinky fingers until the blood started flowing again.



[Okay, so I'm thinking that if my entire body had gone into paralysis, including that leg, I might have been able to progress further. Also, everything was going all right until I started trying to focus on a different sensation. Did I do something wrong there? Or did I abort too soon?]

Dumb Diver [6/26/09]

[I don't remember a lot of this, but there are a few glaring details that stood out that deserve mention.]

For one reason or another, I'm in a sort of obstacle course with Ro and his older brother, D. One of the obstacles is to dive and swim out from underneath a very large glass partition. I dive in and open my eyes. The water is outstandingly clear, and there's no stinging my eyes whatsoever.

As I'm sinking [standing up, sort of hunched over, like Link does with a pair of iron boots on], bubbles are rising up around me and I'm trying to hold my breath, but I get the distinct feeling of exhaling and inhaling like I'm on the surface. I think that it's weird, thinking to myself, "what, is there a big bubble on my face or something?"


[Now, this would tell more proficient oneironauts that they were definitely in a dream, but I came up with a really thin excuse for why it was so. A lot of people have "breathing underwater" as a lucid goal. I did that, but for one reason or another, I WENT ALONG WITH IT! God, this is frustrating. I've got to step up my RC regiment, since I've sort of forgotten about it.]

WILD attempt #2 [7/01/09]

My alarm rings at 3:25 a.m. This WILD is planned. I get up, get a drink, take a leak, and lay back in bed.

My relaxation technique goes very well. Everything falls asleep as planned, and it takes a great effort to move anything. Once again, turning my head to the side kills the swallowing reflex, even though I know that suppressing it is unnecessary.

After 100 breaths, nothing has changed. I start focusing on another tactile sensation, this time, the bark on the ash tree in my backyard. Unconsciously, I start mentally recreating the landscape around me, as if I'm actually touching the tree. I start getting a new sensation that I didn't have on my last attempt: the feeling that I'm sinking into the bed and there's something pressing on my upper body, so much so that it feels like my feet are in the air. Also, my right ankle feels like it has a heavy weight shackled to it. Unlike last time, my neck and jaws also feel this sensation.

I start imagining myself climbing the tree. The sensation intensifies because I'm no longer focusing on my real body. To occupy myself further, I try touring my house, the buildings, and the farm fields around it. (All 50+acres of it.) I try imagining that I'm touching everything that I can. Whenever I try to think in the 3rd person, the sensation decreases, and I quickly return to first person. The landscape around me isn't perfectly detailed: it's sort of a caricature of everything.

I go over everywhere that I can without actually leaving the property, and my bodily sensation hasn't changed any. I look over, and more than an hour and a half has passed IRT. (In Real Time.)

For one reason or another that I still can't decide, I move my left hand, and it totally brings me back to the relaxation stage. A couple of quick reality checks tell me that I'm not dreaming.

I roll over, and quit for the night. Everything feels even heavier than it did last time.

I have a very fragmented dream after this. All I remember is that the time scale was very messed up, and when my mother wanted us to leave for something, I say, "not now, I'm recording a dream I just had." Freaky.



[Should I have tried to continue? Did I give up too soon? I definitely know that moving was a big mistake.]

Did I teleport? [7/4/09]

This seemed like a long dream, but a lot of it is rather incoherent. Over the course of this dream, somehow, we caught or otherwise got a hold of A large, gray bird, a smaller gray bird, and a gray kitten. I tried putting the cage with the birds in it on some sort of table, but the big bird kept unbalancing the cage.

Next, I'm in the house, watching some sort of team obstacle course involving floating platforms in the water. Regis Philbin was a contestant.

I looked up at the clock, and it said 10:30. I asked mom, "shouldn't I be at school?" She said, "oh, sorry, I'm still on Florida Time." [Florida time? I thought we were in the same time zone as they were?]

Next, somehow I was in my school's cafetorium. I thought, "what the hell? How did I get here? Did I drive? I couldn't have got a ride with the K's cause I was late at home. I must have driven, but did I fall asleep or something?"

[And yet, I failed to take it one step further. What the hell is wrong with me? My explanation this time was that I fell asleep and drove to school. How dumb is that?"]



Ragtag comedy tour? [7/4/09]

In this dream, I was part of a traveling comedy act with the animals I caught in the first dream with Mrs. N, the chemistry teacher, A, R, and M. Our first gig was at a... club? with a German-sounding name. Other parts of the routine involved a cart, a piano, and a propane burner. I was carrying the propane burner in. I asked Mrs. N a question, I think that it was "Where should I put the propane burner?" or "Why do we have a propane burner again?" I put the thing down somewhere, and when I turned around, N and M were in gray robes, and N was bitching at him for being late.



Hiking comedy tour [7/4/09]

The same group of people, plus mom and dad, were hiking with the materials for the act in a hilly, wooded area. Mom said she heard a noise, so I went down the hill to find it. Some guy was riding a Gator (an ATV) down a set of railroad tracks. I shouted back, "It's just a guy on a Gator!"


I don't remember anything from there.....




[I fell asleep at midnight yesterday. So, I'm pretty sure that, to end a dry spell, changing my sleeping pattern works pretty well.]

Disappearing Fertilizer [7/5/09]

My grandpa was having us plant pine trees at some family gathering. He had made hills of dirt and had put a mix of potash (reddish, pinkish, white crystals) and gravel on top of each bed. Mine was absolutely covered with about 3 inches of it. I'm thinking, "there's no way that couldn't kill it! What was grandpa thinking? He must have some reason to do it that way."

I went outside and came back again. All of the white, pink, and red crystals were gone, and so was the gravel. "Where did it all go? Who moved it, and how?" [It's not exactly an easy task to clean up a fertilizer spill, even if the stuff is granulated.]

I bring dad outside neat grandpa's garden, which was much further along than it should have been this time of year, and ask him what happened to all of the potash. Dad's reply was, "You grandpa's a tricky fellow." Later, I ask my brother why he thought there was so much in the first place, he said "It must not have been absorbing all of the K."

Marching Band Megaspeed[7/5/09]

We (the marching band and I) are on the bus, headed towards Mt. Gilead (a town not too far away) to play at a football game the bus turns out and part of the Mt. Gilead band (It looked like their drummers) were out practicing on the roads behind us. When we arrive, for one reason or another, I'm wearing my sousaphone and have to cross a muddy creek. [Mt. Gilead is quite the rural town.] I'm on the last rock and am having difficulty getting up on the other side because my tuba is blocking my vision. I get over, we form up, and start marching through town. [Which never happens in real life.] I look over, and here the entire Mt. Gilead band is nearby. I'm thinking "WTF? how did they march that many miles and arrive here before we did?"


Mean Teacher [7/5/09]

A bunch of kids and I walked into a room in a twisted version of the high school to watch some sort of educational film. I see M, E, and some guy I don't know. We watch the film, and I'm hanging from something the physics kids should have used.

The film is over, and we're switching classes. I ask myself, "okay, where am I going? ...Spanish?" As I'm getting there, htere seem to be more divisions through the school than there usually are. I drop something insignificant, but I stop and pick it up anyway. I walk into class, and it's not spanish, but some English sort of thing that mashed the smart and slow groups together. I'm late enough that everybody has a seat, but there are gaps all over the place. In the front row, I see J and K. iwalk back and see a table with Ke and Cm so I sit next to them. L is sitting nearby, but it's like a caricature of him several years younger.

The teacher stands up and says "I've decided to give you all Thursday Schools today (cue collective groan) for your atrocious behavior yesterday. Now, who can tell me what item 32 is?"
I look down, trying to find a list with the stuff I need on it, but half of my books are gone, leaving me with only a folder and notebook. i search through, but can't seem to find anything to help the situation. I mumble, "I would tell you if I could find it." Somebody tells her, and I look over at the guy next to me, and its a list of what not to do when writing a dream journal.



[Once again, I'm clearly noticing dreamsigns, but not questioning them enough to RC. I've located two dreamsigns that seem to be common: things disappearing out of nowhere, and the DC, M. Maybe I should go talk to him.]

WILD attempt #3 [7/15/09]

Before waking, I had a really vivid, but disjointed dream, and all I have written down is "Weird Al died."

My alarm woke me up at 3:20. It took me a bit of self-encouragement to roll over and do a WILD. It seems that if I want to attempt a WILD, I have to be in bed before 10:00pm.

It got really humid that night, so, shortly after my relaxation routine, I broke it and threw off the bedspread.



[Okay, lessons learned: be in bed at 10:00, pay attention to getting cool.]

A couple of these seemed really disjointed again, but I captured more of them on paper.

Video Game Level fusion [7/21/09]

Both of these dreams occurred after I listened to "The Ultimate Lucid Induction" before I went to sleep.


This dream seemed to have me going through some dungeon that had elements of LoZ, pokemon, and Halo (esp. weapons from Halo). I remember a room with N64-ish graphics that had lava in the very bottom of a cylindrical room which had platforms spiraling up it and a chest in a room near the bottom. I can also remember reviving on a special square in the room "sealed with white magic" like what's in the ghost tower of the 1st generation pokemon games. Strangely enough, I switched to an overhead, 3rd person point of view of me.

But what's most unusual is that I was in a Halo-like first person shooter. I remember having to fire a rocket launcher at something and switch back to a beam rifle.

Fun with Flubber [same day]

I remember playing around with a Flubber-like substance that came packaged in a set of clear plastic vials in a brown box. I was in my room with a plexiglass box and was watching what happened when it was bounced, rolled, and combined with other-colored flubbers. I remember that green+black made a red flubber with a black spot on it, and throwing it separated them.

I had enough fun, so I picked up a textbook and flipped through it to see if flubber was anywhere in there. I looked at a forest map of Ohio, and it said that where I lived was not "in eagle country." Sure enough, flubber was in the back of the book. I remember nothing but the fact that it was "viscoelastic" and had "zero coefficient of friction." Mom walks by and notes that I'm really far in the book, when I was just flipping through it.

I sat down in the living room and watched whatever was on the Retro channel. My brother was sitting in an adjacent chair. It was some WWII flick about returning a dead soldier with certain honors to his birthplace.......

All three of these happened after listening to the first half of ninja's "Subliminal lucid 3.0." I woke up at 3:20 for another WILD attempt, but decided that I was too tired and needed the sleep.

Jazz Band [7/22/09]

[This one seemed really DC heavy.]

I arrive for the pre-christmas concert practice for jazz band (JB). I set the tuba [I play trombone in JB] down and start looking for my music, since the band director usually has a crate with it all in there. Mine isn't there. I tell Mr.W that I can't find it. [Mr.W doesn't do JB. MR.Tr or MissB usually does it.] He says, "Well, I'm not going to let you go out and get it."

So, I look around for somebody whose part I can double up on. M has an electric bass guitar. [He plays trumpet.] I sit down next to him and try to see what I need to play. The song is "Jingle Bell Rock" and I have a walking bass line.

Halfway through practice, J walks in, obviously not dressed for the occasion. He was wearing brown pants, beaten-up All Star High tops, a pink and purple hand knit sweater, and mirror sunglasses. He has his bass strapped to his back, but he goes and sits down with a trombone. [He's the bassist IRL.] While I'm looking over there, I don't see R, who should be there, since his brother M is right next to me. However, I do notice H, who I haven't seen in half a year.

D walks in. She's a clarinetist who I haven't seen since 6th grade. I'm going, "what the fuck? She's not supposed to be here."

But, before I can act upon it, my alarm clock rings. I wake up, and it's 5:45. I fall back asleep.

Electric error [same date]

I'm walking down to my mailbox, after mom sent me after the mail. We just got back after some long absence. I open up the mailbox, and things start pouring out like a bag of holding. I throw everything into a box (which I didn't have) and walk back across the road and set the box down in the driveway. One of the letters looks rather urgent, so I open it. It says, "failure to pay your balance in one week will result in termination of service" and it's from the power company. The letter was stamped A WEEK AGO!

I haul the box full of stuff up the driveway, and tell mom that they're going to shut the power off today. She replies with, "Oh, that's usually a winter thing." [She has a tendency to say rather surreal and out-of-place things in my dreams.] I run out and tell dad, who is in the machinery shed. He says nothing other than "interesting."

I see a service truck down at the driveway. The service man is running over the ground with what looks like a metal detector, but for some reason, I think that it's a degaussing coil. [The power lines are clearly on the poles above.] I ask him, "you're degaussing something?" "Yeah, I gotta degauss the line to make 'em safe to cut."

Whatever. I walk back up to the house and sit down next to mom. For some reason, we have a new gas range. [The house doesn't have gas.] I comment on it and mom says, "yeah, but it doesn't heat."


Fighting... Ganondorf? [same date]

I'm in a square plot of land, ringed on all sides by pine trees. The plot appears to be around 30 acres. The landscape rolls gently, and there is an old barn off towards one of the corners. It is fast approaching nightfall, and the moon is already out. A light breeze is blowing. A Ganondorf/generic wizard hybrid is in the center, dressed in flowing robes and a pointed cap, but his green skin and orange hair make him unmistakable. He cackles and starts firing lightning bolts at me.

I turn myself into a 9-foot tall troll-like creature, with gigantic muscles, gray skin, and a ring of bumps around my head. The wizard charges up for a big attack, and I run up and kick him. He falls to the ground, the breath knocked out of him. He transforms into his own troll-like hulking monstrosity, and starts chasing after me.

My view changes between 1st and 3rd person a lot here. Since it's plainly obvious that he can't keep up with me, he summons a giant purple dragonlike snake with the last half of its body attached to him. It likes to quickly lunge after me. I get knocked over once, and then start running. The wizard and his snake are on one side of the barn, and I'm on the other. The snake looks around the corner, but it must not be able to see me. I hide behind a hill that is near the edge. The snake lunges out about 20 feet to the left of me, but doesn't see me. A squirrel pops out of the woods, and the snake becomes distracted by it. I take the opportunity to kick it behind the head. Its neck breaks with a loud crunch. It lies on the ground, clearly dead.

A whirlwind starts in the middle of the field. Furious, the wizard jumps into it, and rises up a hundred feet in the air and starts firing dark bolts of magic lightning at me. I run into the whirlwind and take the battle up to his level.

When I get there, somehow, the Ganondorf-wizard has turned into... toon link, and the princess Zelda from Wind Waker lies between us. I pull out a bow and start shooting around her at the ganon-link, who is still shooting at me. Half the time, I'm either shooting at him or shielding. I get his health meter [when did that pop up?] about halfway down, and the dream ends.

[Okay, that was probably the most fantastic dream I've had so far. How I never RC'd through all of that, I don't know.]

I didn't listen to any audio aids, but I went to bed an hour later than I usually do.

Moldy syrup making [7/24/09]

This one's a little patchy, but no less bizarre. I was making "maple" syrup in my basement using corn and wheat malt. [Technically, it would be a malt syrup.] One of my Dad's friends, T, was there because he's the one that always makes maple syrup. Anyway, it also involved mixing something with sugar in a stand alone mixer. I looked at it, and it was covered in gray, lint-like mold. I pulled a pinch off and tasted it. Yup, it tasted exactly like old, moldy bread.


"Copywhore" [same]

I got out of class, and halfway down the stairwell, I realized that I forgot my books. Grabbing at thin air, I said "where did they go?" A friend, R, was walking up the stairwell and said, "I hate it when that happens." So, I went back to my previous class.

Once there, I started looking for my books. I found them at the back of the room, but not before the freshmen came in. For some reason, the teachers in the room also switch. I said, "is there anything in here I still need?" The present teacher, Mr C., said, "Here's something I don't recognize." He held it up, and it was a set of salmon-colored papers. I grabbed them, and went on out, when I decided that I needed to make a copy of them. I ran home
to copy them, fired up my copy machine/scanner, and printed off a dozen copies. I stuffed them down my shirt and went back.

When I get back, the front doors won't open. So, I take climb the stairs to the roof, and go through "the hatch," an alternate entrance on the roof of the building that has never existed and probably never will. Lowering myself through, I set off an alarm that sends everybody out into the halls. I saw a bunch of DCs whose real life counterparts I haven't spoke to in a while. I eventually found the class I was supposed to be in, and handed the paper to the teacher. She said, "Thank you, that was my only copy, and they wouldn't let me copy it."

But then, the announcements came on and said that there would be an assembly. I went to the cafetorium, and sat down next to a few friends (Rf, Butters, H, and others) and Rf said, "Nice job, copywhore."


[Okay, copywhore was not quite what I expected people to start calling me after that. Anyway, forgetting something seems to be something common to my dreams...]

Writing a dream... book cover? [8/7/09]

Short WBTB

Before this one, I had a dream that involved traveling to a parallel world with Harry Potter characters. Nothing special.

But on the next dream, I was writing about the previous one sideways on a glossy paperback book cover with a pencil.

Weird.

Last night's dream involved me doing a Physics problem.

Buying weed from a buddy [10/2/09]

I've lost quite a it of it since I woke up, but I remember buying weed from M. I said that I'd pay for an ounce, and he tore a bit off of a compressed brick, [we don't get brick weed up here] weighed it, then stuffed it into a tube filled with paper.

Weird...ish.

I had a rather productive night last night. I entered a 2nd playlist into Mindmaster that speaks from the 1st person point of view (using "I will" statements) rather than giving orders. I also bumped my alarm clock ahead 10 minutes.

Driving with Dad. [10/4/09]

I was driving to school in the Ranger with dad in the passenger's seat. On of our wheels falls off. I ask M, one of Dad's friends that shouldn't be near the high school at all, if he can help. Because of the law of universal dream hammerspace, he pulls out a bottle jack and props the truck up and fixes it. I get in to move it, and the truck starts like the 1979 grain truck that can barely move itself.

Chemistry labs aren't that portable! [same]

I'm out in front of the high school, horsing around with S and a couple of buddies. Eventually, we decide to go inside. I pass by E, a senior that graduated 2 years ago, in a track suit, in the lobby. I'm thinking that it's one of the lunch periods for some reason. There's nothing in the cafetorium but 3 tables end to end with a bunch of chemistry materials on it and the chemistry teacher, Mrs. N, is asking a bunch of people random chemistry questions that are rather obvious. I continue walking down the hallway in search of my locker. All along the top of the wall is a layer of clear plastic with small, flat-linked metal chains hanging outside of them. Curious, I snap one off. Its just an ordinary, shiny metal chain. Behind me I hear a teacher from Middle School, Mr. M, who is now retired, say, "you better put that back." I shout back, "I will," and pass by my locker, and return to it. There is a machine on it that asks something about an "oxide form."

Okay, sometimes the hay is tough, but there shouldn't be steam pouring out of the barn! [same]

I'm out in front of my house, looking towards the barn. It is nearing sunset, and the sky is orange. The roof has been totally removed, and steam is rolling out of the top and shooting out of random places. The color of the sky makes the steam look like an orange haze. I see mom on top of this steaming pile, throwing bales off. [For all of those who don't have experience handling hay, if it is put up too wet, the hay will compost and heat up, sometimes becoming hot enough to set a barn on fire if stacked deep enough.]

So that's what incense is! [10/16/09]

It was a bright, sunny morning in the fall, much like it is around my house now. I'm in front of the machinery shed and a couple of friends are sitting on the grass. One of them, R, was holding an orange, half burnt incense stick. I ask him, "may I?" He passes the incense stick over to me, and I walk inside and take a few puffs from the wooden end. Suddenly, everything became brighter-than-life vivid, and every time I turned my head, everything blurred as it moved. I walked back outside and handed the stick back to R, and began walking around, looking at the grass, the trees, and everything.

[Evidently, incense sticks are covered in hashish in this dream.]

Rocky tentacles [same]

I was playing some sort of Loz game from a first person view in N64 era graphics. I was on a platform that had eight clawed, rocky tentacles growing out of the sides below the stage, surrounded by lava. The objective seemed to be to hookshot the tentacles, bring them, in, and slash them before crushing/grabbing me. All of them died except for one that grabbed me and flung me off of the stage.

Broken TVs still work, even if you punch them. [10/17/09]

Once again I was playing some bastard form of N64 era LoZ game, but this time, I was actually playing the game as one would in real life, in front of a TV. The task was to pop up from a hole in the floor and run over and attack an enemy that I couldn't see, but would throw me out if I failed to hit it. I became so frustrated that I eventually punched the TV in the lower left part of the screen, and to my surprise, the same image that was displayed on the screen was behind it. Knowing that cathode ray tubes emit ionizing radiation, [I don't know if that's true] I back away from the hole and continue playing. All of this was done on a TV that I know does not work in real life.
