Why would you need it to run the whole night?
Oh yeah, btw if anyone cares, Im a lucid-god!! Mwhahaha!!![]()
As opposed to writing in a journal why is there no mention of those 4"x 4" little tape recorders. Like the ones students take to lectures.
It would be a lot easier to reach over and push record than to turn on a light, get a pen, and write a dream down.
Is it not good for dream recall to speak out loud?
I have a sound recorder on my computer. If I could figure out a way for it to run the duration of the night, I could just wake up and talk as the microphone would record it. -that would be cool!

You guys suck.
Because then you would have to get up to turn on the voice recorder which would defeat the purpose.
Lucid God Hay? well then <img src="http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/bowdown.gif" style="vertical-align:middle"/>Originally posted by ffx-dreamz

I find that speaking out loud thought intersesting. My one rule when my ex-husband would come home late was that he not wake me by talking. I can handle being awaked by noise and then returning to sleep mode but it seems that once I go audible it's much harder to go back to sleep.

I was toying with this idea earlier because I do have one of those very small voice recorders. I haven't gotten around to actually trying it yet though. I need batteries.
I also think it'll still be ok even if you have to move a little. Just press record or something, it'll still be less movement then if you get up to write. No tape is going to last a whole night anyways.
Now that I think about it, it doesn't have to be a small recorder, it could be any size as long as its by your bed.
yeh i rekon that would work heaps good.........then if u have a mic on ur comp use the text to speach feature...all done for ya....but then again not as meaningful as writing it
That's true.
Text to speech really screws up sometimes though. I have had endless hours of speaking into it while mumbling to see what it can come up with.
So during the night when you are not really awake I don't think it will effectively recognize your voice, unless there's a sleepy voice mode.![]()
Well, so far my write-in-the-diary-you-lazy-bastard works with flying colors so I'm not going to require the aid of a recording device to recollect my dreams.

Kaniaz why don't you make a recording of your lovely voice telling us to: "write-in-your-diaries-you-lazy-bastards!" so we can put it on a timer for 2:30 am?
Kaniaz: Write in your diary, you lazy bastard.
Kaniaz: Get the hell up and write in your diary.
Kaniaz: GET YOUR *BEEP* *BEEP* OUT OF *BEEPING* BED AND WRITE THE *BEEP* INTO YOUR *BEEPING* DIARY YOU *BEEPINGBEEPER*

I dunno leaving it on all night could produce some creepy results, atleast for me. I say weird things in my sleep and upon listening to my recording id probably freak myself out.
The reason that no-one mentions tape recorders is because tape recorders are old and practically obsolete, what with so many MP3 players having built-in microphones these days.
I record almost all of my dreams using mine. It's undoubtably way more convenient, efficient and quicker than writing or typing, plus, the "device failure" of my MP3 player is what caused me to become lucid in my first lucid dream when I was trying to record after a false awakening. That might not have happened if I had been writing.
I've used a voice recorder as a dream journal, reaching out of the bed to press the record button when needed. I prefer it to writing. You can do it without opening your eyes, which helps with dream recall. Oh, and listening to the entries can be funny when they're incoherent from sleepiness!
Has anyone tried to transcribe the entries using Naturally Speaking or another dictation package? I tried but the quality wasn't great. I transcribe them myself in the morning (or at the weekend) or trade with a friend to transcribe each other's (very entertaining).
