      Don't Fly in an LD and Make it Last Longer

      Don't Look Down!

      Dreams, and therefore lucid dreams, occur in our big brain's transition zones, to and from Theta brainwave patterns to Delta brainwave patterns. This occurs many times in through the night. The easiest entry into a LD is when you first fall asleep. In effect, you will be in a form a self-hypnosis when going from relaxed (alpha brainwaves) to 'daydreamy' (Theta brainwaves) . It is while you are in theta, and still in possession of willful thought, that you can willfully suggest to yourself will be aware in a dream. One of the reasons a LD is so short is the precarious balance we are in between two states of awareness. I would suggest not flying in an LD (yes, I know it is hard not to!) as the act of flying causes an adrenaline rush that will wake you up sooner. In fact, try not to do anything extraordinary... just take a walk. The length of the LD might surprise you. I used to find myself in a LD asking 'Am I dead?' This also had a tendency to yank me back into awareness. I don't know about you, but I like to look closely at inanimate objects in an LD . The detail is striking and fills me with extraordinary joy. These days I don't ask myself 'Am I dead ?' as, I know, that if I am dead then death ain't so bad!

      Very interesting. I've only had a couple of short LD's, so my primary goal is to extend the duration of my LD's. The longer the better! I'm like you though, the fact that everything you experience is within the boundaries of your own mind brings me joy and boggles my mind!

      That's a good idea. I am going to try that. I usually automatically fly when I become lucid. I just go WOOHOO! and shoot up into the air. Sometimes I wake up right after this. But, the few times where I just walked around and touched things, the dream felt insanely real.

      I've had 3 lucid dreams so far, and in all of them I either woke up, had a false awakening, or lost lucidity less than a minute into the dream. The problem i have is, as soon as I realise I'm dreaming, I inadvertantly think about my real body asleep in bed, and the dream tends to fade. I'll try this method next time
      Lucidity is the opposite of being lost in your thoughts.

      That happens a lot to me.. The idea that I'm just in my head makes me think of my body in real life...

      I've had experience that contradicts what's written here. Some of my longest LDs (including one confirmed hour long LD), have seen me doing or participating in ridiculous and exciting things. However, I guess if you have absolutely no control over your emotional state, then being super boring would be a good way to keep things stable (though I do understand the joy one can find in the detail one's mind creates).
