It's not that you don't dream anything, you simply don't remember it. You enter REM sleep several times a night, and therefore, dream several times every night. Studies have shown that if you don't get REM cycles (i.e. don't dream), you get irritated, paranoid, and eventually go insane...

If you start keeping a dream journal, and repeat to yourself your intention to remember your dreams as you fall asleep, you can generally improve your dream recall, and won't have any dreamless nights... There are plenty of other ways to increase dream recall, and they're listed in the dreamviews' howto... The lucid dreaming FAQ also has techniques to improve dream recall...

REM = rapid eye movement. It's when the most vivid dreaming occurs. Some dreaming occurs in other states but it's usually dark and washed out and fairly "separated". (hey maybe that's my problem... no REM dreaming! ;P)

You enter something like 6 REM periods each night, with increasing lengths the longer you sleep.

I'm having this problem quite a lot lately, and when it gets really bad, i do what's known as a Wake Back to Bed.
And that usually sorts it out.

The final limb of the sleep cycle is REM, which stands for rapid eye movement. Along with the rapid eye movement, a person's blood pressure rises and their pulse quickens. (ld4all) This is the stage where lucid dreams can be tapped into and \"although dreaming occurs during the other stages of sleep, the most vivid dreams occurs during the REM stage.\" (dream) The most unusual attribute of REM is that your brain begins to emit beta waves (dream) and \"from your brain activity one would say you are wide awake.\"(ld4all) Fortunately the ld4all website tells us that the body is paralyzed during all of this. It is believed to be an internal protection system to prevent a person from acting out their dreams and potentially hurting themselves or others. Luckily for lucid dreamers, the REM Stage can last as long as ten minutes and increase from there because \"with each cycle the duration of the REM-Sleep increases. In the last two hours of sleep the REM-Stage can be as long as an hour.\"(ld4all)[/b]
