I've also been working on my dream recall and trying to have a LD for about a week also. My dream recall has drastically improved. I went from remembering portions of a dream every now and then, to remembering 3 dreams last night. I started a dream journal, which it sounds like you started also.
Everynight before i go to sleep, I lay in bed and say to myself [or outloud] "tonight i am going to dream. I will remember my dreams in the morning" I say it a few times, sort of like a mantra. i really concentrate on the words and the meaning. So far, thats really helped.
As far as becoming lucid, i havnt had any luck so far.
