I would say keep to the simple reliable reality checks like the plug your nose reality check because it it very reliable. The more complex reality checks have more room for error.
If I were you I would keep with the simple ones.
Are more complex reality checks more effective?
For example:
-You look at your hands, and say to yourself "everything is normal, I'm not dreaming"
or
-You look at your hands, and say to yourself "I have five fingers, so I'm not dreaming. If I had more or less than five fingers on either hand then I would be dreaming; but because I have five fingers on both hands I am not dreaming"
Which is more effective?

Plugging your nose RC is a really effective one, I use it all the time. I also read the text and quickly look away and look back. Once in a lucid dream I had once, the text didn't change when I looked at back at it first, I looked away again and looked back and it changed.
More detailed your reality check the better.
I generally go with RCs with an open mind until I can absolutely prove to myself that for a fact I am not dreaming. So I think more complex ones work better for me. I think for the most part it probably depends on the individual.
