From what I've read (I only WILDed once, correct me anywhere I am wrong plz), it is a good idea that keep repeating to yourself 'I am dreaming, I am dreaming, etc.' while spinning because some lose lucidity while spinning.
Also, if saying 'clarity now' or 'increase clarity' doesn't work, try rubbing your hands together or have any feeling you are used to (breeze on the face, or whatever).
For changing places, 'teleportation' is the advanced way. You can always imagine the beach outside your house and leave the house and hope for the best
Once you are lucid, RCs are kinda useless. There are only meant to bring you lucidity. (Correct me if I'm wrong). BUT if you feel like you are losing lucidity and don't know what to do, an RC might help. Also, if you 'wake up', always RC because maybe you experienced a false awakening, where you wake up IN the dream.
There are many reasons why your OBE was short: maybe you were at the end of a REM cycle, maybe you got really excited for whatever reason and it woke you up, maybe because you closed your eyes...
