      Imagined Reality Checks

Since most of the things that occur in my dreams normally do not occur during my waking life I am having somewhat of a difficult time finding dream signs that I can practice during the day. For example, I probably go to the grocery store or other store at least 2 or 3 times a week in my dream, although in real life, I would go to the store only once a week, making it hard to really use this for a reality check since I do it so rarely.

Because of this I came up with an idea of doing imagined reality checks. When meditating at night before going to bed I am going to try imagining the things that occur frequently in my dreams, and then picture the event happening in my imagination and do a reality check in my imagination. Has anyone tried this or had any success with anything like this ?

Yes programming you subconsciousness works! It is a technique called VILD: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Lucid_Dreamin...ppendices:_VILD that use the same thing to be lucid.
Even if dreams often is quite abstact and works in symobls dream signs can be the store for instance. Every time your in the store you do reality checks intensive and try to be aware of what is happening during the whole shopping tour.

Great suggestion about being aware duing the whole shopping trip. Like a 45 minutes reality check. I'll try that. Thanks !

I have a question about this. Since doing a reality check implies a conscious thought/effort, doesn't that mean that you would have to already be lucid before you can even do one? I guess the key is getting your conscious mind to recognize dream signs and make that leap to "I think I'm dreaming". Then you can confirm with a reality check. Still not sure how to do that -- too often I have dreams where I encounter very weird things, but it never occurs to me that I'm dreaming.
