This happens to me as well... after only a minute or two I already feel like turning onto my side or stratching my neck or something. It's very distracting. I found the itches usually go away and occur less frequently if you really force yourself to focus on something mental, like using your imagination to visualise something. That takes your mind's focus off your physical body and (hopefully) onto imaginary things instead.
I know exactly how you feel though. I get this pain in my neck until I'm convinced my head is at the wrong angle to my body (lol!) and I want to move my head so much, and even if I lie there for 2 hours, it just gets worse and worse...
