Normal dreams become darker, why? / memories

Started with becoming lucid about 2 months ago. I've had one lucid dream so far. (one in which I was able to influence everything and was aware, it lasted for about 30 seconds) I've had a lot of dreams coming close to becoming lucid, yet somehow subconciously choosing not to become lucid. (either by reacting on a change in the dream and accepting it, or just enjoying the dream)
I was close to becoming lucid but school started and *looks innocent* that means I lost the discipline of trying WBTB but even without that I still have a lot of dreams to become almost/close to lucid.

What I've been experiecing in my dreams this week is that they're overall a lot more grim, scary perhaps even horrorful. A friend of mine who once had experienced with ld-ing told me this happened to him, that somehow because of the lucidness the mind has to counter it with "negative" dreams. I've only remembered what he told me when I mentioned my dreams to him today, so it wasn't something that I had convinced myself of.

    Is this normal?
I understand that if I further become lucid I will be able to shake those dreams off but they're pretty disturbing images. They don't disturb me in the dreams themselves but when I wake up and think back on them they áre disturbing.

Also, the way I recall dreams has changed. I used to be able to recall everything in the morning or after every dream when I wrote them down. Now I can only do that to half of them, the other half comes back to me through the day. (today I picked up a dvd, saw an actor, and all of a sudden remembered I dreamt about a movie he was in).

    just me :-)

it could be anything, perhaps you're not really enjoying yourself, who knows. You're not becoming lucid everynight so that theory of your friend goes right out the window, i mean one measly lucid dream is not gonna cause that many problems, and besides the theory doesnt make sense anyway. They're just strange dreams you should look for their cause in your waking life not worry that your lucidity is causing it (perhaps you're worrying too much anyway that might cause it)

My first ld was SCARY! Or I was just scared, I think alot of peoples first are scary, but they just get better. Just remember, nothing can hurt you, I think I was scared because it was dark.

u know, it was kind of the opposite for me. I used to have terrible dreams for AGES until I first discovered was lucid dreaming was. After that, my bad dreams had gone almost entirely. That is, until one night when i got a full-fleged nightmare that came out as the worst of my life. It delt with these big UFO's. My nightmares always have alien-craft in them, even though im fascinated by them in the real world... interesting

    then it's logical isn't it?

If you're fascinated with them in real life they're bound to come back in your dream life.

But why do they give me the most intense fear in the dreamworld?
