That makes sence, but are you swearing of RC's forever now?
Hi, I just been thinking about this. Doing RCs when awake is actually killing the lucid dream possibility because when I do the RC, it will be negative...I'm not dreaming and that alone will affect the mood for lucid dreaming. It's not so bad if it's done a few times but for like the whole day or more than a few times it does feel demoralising. I noticed this everytime I do more than a few RCs or when I have a new idea to RC the mood is rocket power but as soon as I do it, it fizzles off.... Maybe it's just me but I think it will also affect other people to a certain degree. I've had higher chance of becoming lucid by intending what to do in the lucid dream...it's like the mind already knows how to execute a lucid dream, just got to tell it what to do when it's lucid and use that as motivation/intent.

Think about it, you do an RC and it turns out negative.....what's your natural response. Most likely disappointment/doubt more than the enthusiasm to continue doing the checks. Because you already know that you are not dreaming in the first place and the fact is that it's not possible to suddenly without the person knowing slip into a dream and does an RC to 'catch' that he/she is dreaming unless the person was asleep. To me lucid dreaming is not about checking if I'm dreaming or not but more of 'creating' the lucid dream from past knowlege of doing RCs that is already stored in the subconcious instead of passively 'catching' if I'm dreaming. I know about habit but they rarely reflect in dreams unless it's something really huge that can make a giant impression in the subconcious like maybe jumping off a building as an RC or spray painting someone's door with graffiti and see if anything happens.....

If you find you can induce lucid dreams by just using motivation and intent, then great! You probably don't need to do reality checks.
"There are only 2 things that are infinite; the universe and the stupidity of mankind. I'm not sure about the universe." -- Einstein
I agree with you.
I don't do reality checks, mainly because I got sick of it.
I don't keep a Dream Journal, because I never read it.
However, my lucid dream ability somewhat sucks.
I find the best tip ( however inappropriate ) is to refrain from 'masturbating' ( guys or girls ) if u want any hope for 'exciting' dreams. Doing so kills any chance of getting it, which also makes it a lot harder to become lucid in your dreams.
Don't give me that "I don't want that in my dream," well if you don't you probably don't 'masturbate' anyway. So see? it works.
Sorry if it sounds a little 'off the hook,' but i read it somewhere, and it really applies to meh.
all depends how you look at it......if you can get yourself to think "oh sh!t dream sign! I should RC" then it's good.
Well, RCs can respons negative sometimes.
That's why some people have RC combos. For example a looking at hand RC, then a put the finger through the hand, then a trying to fly RC.
This thread is very negative. Fortunately, I've avoided reality check burnout through a Matrix mindset. You must through disbelief to the wind, and each time you reality check, you must truly consider that what you are experiencing could be a dream. If a reality check becomes a monotonous scheduled thing, then you clearly don't understand the purpose of a reality check. Do a reality check whenever you see something odd, whenever you feel a strong emotion, and whenever someone mentions dreaming. You must affirm to yourself how the reality check will behave when you are dreaming. And, as said, you must always believe that you could be dreaming whenever you reality check.

I got a dream sign handed to me and I still didn't RC :/, i guess it takes awhile to get them in there eh?
What is for you is not for me. In fact all Consciously induced Lucid Dreams I've had all were thanks to doing RCs at daytime and taking the habit with me into the DreamWorld.

Hmm, I never get any negative feeling when I do an RC without sleeping. Since I already know that I'm not dreaming, it dosn't hurt me that much to confirm it.
Actually, I see it as a good thing when it fails because I know that it's going to build a habit.
Although, I can see the way you're thinking of this, and I woulf find it hard to put myself into other ways of thinking about it...
Off course I have been somewhat disappointed to find out I wasn't Dreaming, because being Lucid in a Dream makes you a True God limited only by your own imagination.
However instead of seeing this as negative I would think: " Too bad, No absolute Freedom YET...but sooon..." I like to do RCs in uncomfortable situations to see if I can escape from it all. I would not feel negative that I can't escape the situation but more like" Hmmm.. Too bad...no sweet escape just YET.." in a way that made me feel on top of the situation anywayz. Like I know I can't escape all stressfull/negative/dangerious/emotionally depressing sitiations but I know I can escape ALOT of them AKA Nasty Dreams so it gives me an edge; The ability to escape from ALL troublesome situations in Dreams and as we all know; You can NEVER tell wether ANY situation, even THIS situation right now, is a Dream or Not untill you do an RC. I see it as a liberation from about 50% of all stressfull sitautions I find myself in as Dreams our pretty much about half of our lives.
Don't know if that makes sense to you.

It's all in how you frame it. Instead of getting down, pat yourself on the back for remembering to do a reality check.
The vast majority of my lucid dreams have come from reality checking, so you can't tell me that they're detrimental.![]()
