Wow. I was about to reply, then I spent a couple of minutes staring at your avatar.

Some common ways to increase realism includes feeling your surroundings, like touching the ground or walls. That way everything comes into focus and becomes more detailed. Another method is to rub your hands together, although I've heard mixed reviews on that one.

I can vouch for the rubbing of hands that usually does the trick. You can also do the spinning in circles if you are good at it, as it is a double edged sword it can either give you a lot more vividness and lucidity or it can end a dream completely.

You can also yell "MORE CLARITY!" did that last night and was surprised how well it worked increased Clarity by 300% twas' amazing.

Simply focusing is also a way to do it. Look at your hands, rub them, focuse one them, and then start look around yourself. Much more vividness!

Tactile sensations, concentration on textures, and shouting mantras are all said to help. Experiment.

Anything that engages your senses is useful to increase the vividness of a dream. Try involving yourself in some aspect of the dream world.

I've used the spinning - or falling back technique - a huge number of times (compared to any other tech) and I am successful nearly every time. The only exceptions being when I've wasn't able to catch it in time.

But, I think some people use the tech to try to increase the vividness of a dream. I have never used it for that and I personally don't think it'll work like that for me.

What I use spinning or falling back for is to rescue a dream that's fading. Many times when your lucidity is about to slip away or when an LD is simply about to end, you can sense it. I can often feel that I'm about to either slip into "normal dreaming" or have the dream end.

The window of opportunity is only a matter of a split second to maybe a couple of seconds. If you can catch it in time, extending your arms out to your side and spinning around can give you something to focus your attention and awareness on. That is the mechanism that helps you remain conscious and/or remain in the dream. The same effect can be achieved by allowing yourself to fall backwards.

The results of this method - in my experience - usually allows me to salvage lucidity. In rare cases, the process will cause a transformation in the dream, such as a new dream being entered. It's only completely failed me a small handful of times.

Let me note that the difference in spinning/falling and the other techs is that this gives you something other than the dream world to focus your attention on. If the dream world is fading, the last thing to save you is often the fading visuals. The spinning gives you a sense of motion to and, therefore, something besides the dream world to stabilize your efforts.

I slowly span around, then shouted increase clarity while closing my eyes and opening them again. It was clearer, very clear. Then I felt my surroundings, that helped.

AdamA is not here but i'm sure he would not mind, he suggested asking a nearby DC for a clarity pill and then swallowing the pill they give you, he found that to work.

If you do wake up, by the way, many people have found that if you stay COMPLETELY STILL in the real world, then slipping back into a dream is very easy. It's like a super-fast WILD.

Yup this is what I always do and it always works for me.
I did some spinning around in circles while in the air and the dream became very vivid and it gained me another 15 minutes in my dream, until my sister came down and woke me up >_>, but at least the spinning worked. I most often do the Commands, Spinning, and Rubbing of the hands while focusing on them.
