hello all
i understand reality checks and what they are for. but my life just got realy busy, and i dont have time to think about reality checks during the day.
during the night i am a lot more free, so i am trying WILD's.
are reality checks necessary for a DILD?
or is there any other solution to my problem, because i would realy like to try a DILDing.
thanks for any responses.

if you can read this then you are about to be punched

Since joining about 2 months ago I've had 7 or so Ld's. Before joining, just 3 in my life, and I don't do any RC at all.
Just being interested and thinking about lucid dreaming and attempting WILD's i think is good enough.

Somewhat. What you could do for RC, only do it when you seem something strange that you don't see every day in your life. You'll still be doing RC, but not as often.

They aren't necessary, but I think they help some people. I rarely RC anymore, but I still have DILDs regularly if I WBTB.
Maybe RC's aren't absolutely necessary for having DILD's but just knowing about them could help you do a conscious RC once you become aware in your dream that something is wrong.
All my DILD's so far have come from wacky things happening within the dream which starts my non lucid brain ask if I'm dreaming. I then do a conscious nose-pinch RC just to 100% confirm that fact.

most of my lucid dreams didnt require a reality check however i think they have contributed.
reality checks are quick and easy but if you're looking to not have people ask what you're doing, then people here will be more than happy to help you with that
its not that i dont have ANY time for RC's during the day. but i hear of people doing 20 a day, and i dont have time, to do that.
im sure i could do a couple each day, maybe 2 or 3.
the question is then, how can i make these very few reality checks as meaningfull and effective as possible?
thanks for the reply's chaps, i am very grateful

As been said many times, when ever there is something that is not quite right, and even make something seem like it's not quite right.
Always make yourself think that there's a possibility that you could be currently in a dream. Then do a reality check just to be certain. And expect the RC to work also.
awsome. thanks
also, what frame of mind are you in, before bed, when prepairing for a DILD. do you go over your dream journal, to increase the chance of dejavou.
over all is there anything else other than RC's to aid/assist a DILD.
thanks again
It depends on what you consider a reality check. Knowing that you're dreaming/not in reality is the essence of DILD. At some level, yes, reality checks are essential. Mental RCs make it easy though.
I was Lucid dreaming for years without the use of any reality checks other than constantly watching for any kinds of abnormalities, and asking myself if I could be dreaming right now. Not even after I found Laberge's book did I use them. I didn't like any of the ones mentioned.
I didn't start using them until after joining DV, and reading about the nose pinch one. I thought that was such a cool idea that I had to try it.
So yes, it's very possible to get Lucid without them. But they are a great help during those times when you think you may be dreaming, but are not quite convinced.

They aren't neccessary because last night i had a DILD, and i just realized hey im dreaming. With no Reality Check, and usually i never do reality checks unless
1. Something really strange happens and i start to question things
2. I'm already lucid and i just want to try it anyways.
It does help confirm it though just incase your not too sure.. That may happen to you because sometimes dreams can be very realistic. Mine tend to have realistic properties but not tottally realistic. Like my dream last night i had no pants on.

A. WILDing before bed was not mentioned here, and you're missing the point of the entire thread: reality checks.
B. Who are you to call WILDing at the wrong time the number one mistake, when in reality it hardly comes up?
C. It is very possible to WILD before bed, many people have done it.

actualy doing them is not the issue, its just that you always have to keep reality checking in the back of your mind through out the day, and im to busy for that ATM. im off to africa in 5 days, once i arrive and get settled then i can start thinking about stuff like that.
and on top of that there are bats in my wall which thinnk night time is party time.
well thanks for the reply's chaps
